"First off, this week marked a major milestone for us when Bastion sailed past half a million copies sold. Recent holiday sales on Steam and Xbox LIVE Arcade put us over the top. Were happy to have this many people playing and to be in a position to make more games on our own terms. When we set out to make Bastion, a sales number like that seemed astronomical to us, so it feels great to have hit that mark. It goes to show that a lot of folks out there like what were doing and want us to keep going, which is great, because we intend to stick together as a team and do just that."
they've only sold like 50K through november, I doubt they make it to 150K! it's already being heavily slashed, I got it for $30.
and developers don't do that because they don't want people to think they are going to do that for every game, plus they don't want to piss off those who paid full price!
(though to be fair, I think most rayman fans would just be thrilled to see more people play the game).

Rayman Origins was definitely worthy of a retail release -- it has far more content than most games like it. Ubisoft's problem was releasing it in the middle of November.

Quality and length wise? Definitely. But I don't think it sells well eitherway because it's 2011 and it's a 2D platformer without a nintendo mascot.
I'm just arguing I think it would have made more money via digital distribution

Maybe. Ubi wasn't too smart with Rayman like they should have been. It was never going to be a big seller, but it would have a better shot in February, maybe even at $40 normally instead of $60. I don't think it needed to be a digital to do well, though.
