I was just given a 360...one that doesn't have a working disc-drive, but its online-capability is fine. That means it's probably going to become my online game-and-movie machine, so what do you guys like the best? I'll check up on this after work. Games with demos get bonus points, too.
Also, how much does it cost to fix a 360 disc-drive?

If you dig Metroidvania type games Shadow Complex is a must. In my opinion it's the best XBLA game out there. Also if you don't mind paying $15 for games that are about three to four hours long check out Braid, Limbo and Portal: Still Alive.

If you can read this I've momentarily stopped lurking.
transience posted... 360 noob tip: every XBLA game has a demo. take advantage of this.
you should know most of the names out there just by being on this board, so scroll through the lists and download tons of demos.
Duly noted.

I've played Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin and Metroid: Fusion recently, so I'll definitely look into Shadow Complex. What does Still Alive offer that the original Portal doesn't? It and Braid are among my all-time favorites though, and Limbo is pretty good too.

Ip Man and Ip Man 2
Don't hate.
I'm not familiar with them, but consider it done.

Bastion Half-Minute Hero (I've heard the PSP version is superior if that's an option) Miner Dig Deep Catan Super Meat Boy Splosion Man
I've been hearing really good things about Bastion lately, and Half-Minute Hero in the past (no PSP though). I've kicked SMB's ass on Steam and will certainly buy it again on the 360. Splosion Man's fairly fun, as is Ms. Splosion Man.
Don't know Miner Dig Deep or Catan, so I'll have to check them out too!

Ikaruga is beautiful. I've talked up Outland enough and it's got some Ikaruga mechanics in a platformer. N+ may be my favourite XBLA game but it's kinda tough to play after Super Meat Boy's hyper speed. love the co-op though. Shadow Complex is quality. Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is moody and looks great. Geometry Wars 2 is a goddamn must. Half-Minute Hero, yep.

I bought Ikaruga for Gamecube earlier this year...haha, fun but hard, as expected; I could only reach the third boss. Outland was the first demo I tried before I made this topic! N+ in general doesn't impress me, though it's been fun enough to goof around with friends. I've only watched Geometry Wars but never played it, so this should be fun to handle its sequel...! I don't know ITSP, but it's worth a look.
Blind Azathoth posted... There's so much stuff on Netflix that it's hard to really suggest things without knowing what you're into.
Except Mystery Team, which everyone should watch.
I'm all about funny stuff, though I also got Netflix so I could discontinue my cable which was being almost exclusively used for Comedy Central...so I welcome any worthwhile shake-ups from my funny formula you have. If it helps, my top three favorite movies are probably Shawshank Redemption, Truman Show, and Toy Story (which isn't a particularly comedic trio).
Don't know anything about Mystery Team, which means it's up for a fair shot!

Well, my personal favorite comedic (or at least semi-comedic) movies on Netflix are probably Mystery Team (think the Hardy Boys in the modern world), Wristcutters (dark comedy in a limbo for suicides), The Producers (the original, of course), Murder by Death (parody of various fictional detectives with an excellent British cast, Peter Falk!!, and Truman Capote for some reason), and... well, I'm not sure I'd really classify Repo Man as a comedy, but I think that's what it's filed under. It's about repo men and a car trunk that vaporizes people and vague references to Scientology. I like it; plenty of people don't.
For horror on the lighter side, Dead Snow is a fun goofy gory Norwegian Nazi zombie movie, Trick 'r Treat is a relatively light-hearted horror anthology that tells several criss-crossing stories on Halloween night, and Behind the Mask is a slasher flick homage presented as a mockumentary, with a student film crew following around a budding serial killer. On the more serious side of horror I'd recommend Let the Right One In, The Thing, and the original Night of the Living Dead.
Most of the other movies I'd recommend off the top of my head are also pretty serious. 13 Assassins (an excellent samurai action flick), Winter's Bone (extremely tough young woman tries to find her missing father in the Ozarks), Lady Vengeance (about a lady, and lots of vengeance; not quite as good as the fantastic Oldboy but pretty close), Buried (Ryan Reynolds in a box for an hour and a half), Brick (excellent film noir set in a high school), The Wild Hunt (the darkest movie ever made about LARPing), Dead Man (surreal "acid western" starring Johnny Depp as a slowly dying accountant)... some of those weren't the best descriptions but whatever.
As far as TV goes, there's loads of good comedies on Netflix. Archer, Parks and Recreation, Arrested Development, Better Off Ted, Psych, plus tons of British stuff: Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Spaced, Father Ted, Red Dwarf, That Mitchell and Webb Look, The IT Crowd, etc.
And if you just want to watch beautiful footage of insects doing insect things for an hour with very occasional voice-overs and music, check out Microcosmos.

Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as you ever can.
Alright, I've added many of them, thanks! I do need to ask about the British ones though, because I seem to be spotty with British humor. I love Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but I don't care for the other movies and hadn't watched their stand-alone sketches much...and the British version of The Office kept showing me hope, yet I never could care for it like I did the American version. Would there be a particular choice of those comedies you'd recommend starting with?

I forgot about the Bionic Commando-revivals, thanks. I already downloaded Scott Pilgrim's demo. MM9's my favorite of the series, though I've barely touched MM10...sounds like another game to add!

From: HaRRicH | #022 I already downloaded Scott Pilgrim's demo.
Just so you know, whenever you download a game's demo you're actually downloading the whole game, and if you buy the game you're paying for an unlock key to give you access to the full game.
