It's horrible on a standard tv.

It has the same problem Dead Rising does where it practically needs to be played on an HD tv.

After Sacred 2, I gave up on trying to play any game with any noteworthy amount of text in it on a SDTV. I can't imagine Skyrim would be any better in that regard than Sacred was, and Sacred was *bad*. (The game wasn't great either.)

Yeah, it's probably time to upgrade to a cheap HDTV if you want to keep playing modern games.

Honestly, I probably would still be using an SDTV if so many games didn't heavily discourage it.

Eh. I was perfectly happy with my SDTV for about half of the generation. Even got through/enjoyed Dead Rising on it.

I care a lot less about video quality than most, obviously, but I'd assume it would be the same case for anyone still using one.

I remember having trouble reading text from the first couple PS3 games I got. It had nothing to do with video quality.

These days HDTVs are so affordable that there really isn't a good reason not to get one. Even a small one (<25 in) will look better than an SDTV that is twice the size.

Isn't a good reason beyond "text size in some video games is literally the only thing that is even a meaningful change" <_< I don't have a HDTV because I'm not interested in spending X hundred dollars for something when aside from video game text, the picture quality of the TV I already have is 100% sufficient for me.

it's smallish on an HDTV too. I have bad vision, so it's really annoying. text size in general has been a lot smaller this gen. very annoying

I see HDTV all the time, my parents own two. It being better doesn't remotely change the fact that it's not <cost of a new TV> better when I've never once looked at the TV I currently have and thought that it didn't look good enough for me to enjoy whatever was on

As someone who did not care about graphics and video quality and played through a few early PS3 games on a medium sized SDTV before getting a cheap HD one...

I never, EVER want to go back to playing HD games on an SDTV, and the people saying that there isn't much of a difference seriously don't know what they're missing.

The main reason I got an HDTV was because the SD I had before was heavy as f***. Not mobile in the slightest. Looking better is just a plus when I won't have to break my back when it comes time to move.
