Dance of Thorns is it's own thing as far as I know.

There are a few songs in that 500ish deep soundtrack that would sound right at place in Chrono Trigger, though.

practically every Homestuck song I've heard sounds like the creator took a few songs they liked and smashed them together really awkwardly

Homestuck music takes a lot of inspiration from some game music, to the point where it crosses into homage territory at points, so if you think there's a similarity there's some connection to something.

There are dozens of people who work on HS music.

It's not like Hussie requests songs. They make music and put out soundtracks. He picks the ones he wants to use.

Hell, he's made flashes he had no intention to make beforehand just because he heard a song he HAD to use.

Maybe? I don't know much about the works of pony music but if that has a few dozen of fan composers behind it then it's probably similar.
