Keeping Mario and Samus away from each other opens up an avenue for four potential winners.

If Sephiroth can keep his hold over Mario, then Samus could beat him in the final (so could Snake I suppose).

We could end up with a Mario/Snake or Snake/Samus final which would be up in the air, as would Sephiroth/Snake or Sephiroth/Mario. There are a lot of possibilities.
