Does it get scarier? Or is what I've gotten so far is it? I enjoy the game don't get me wrong but it isn't very scary and I'm just wondering if there is some impending brown pants in my future.

Dead Space startles you more than it scares you. It's not a very scary game. That said, it could be the scariest game in the world and you wouldn't get scared of it if you took a break every ten minutes to break the atmosphere >.>

I'd treat it more like an action game than a horror game, honestly. Thought I did sometimes get scared when on the hull of the ship. Those dudes became sneaky as ****.

Well I wasn't going to delve in at the moment I just wanted to try it out before bed, which is naturally the best time to play these games. The atmosphere wasn't really getting me anyway.

It probably doesn't help that I've gone through Amnesia and so might be expecting too much from this. Definitely feels like almost a Resident Evil 5 type " horror " game. More action than horror. But that's fine I like the puzzle solving with the stasis tool so far so hopefully that's a good sign.

Yeah, I'd compare it more with RE5 than Amnesia. It goes out of its way to try to be scary, but...it just isn't. I mean when an enemy jumps at you using a sneaky animation it startles you, but that's it. You don't get afraid and think "man is it gonna happen again?" you just sort of...expect it. So yeah, don't expect too much from the horror side of the game.

Pretty much all Horror things in general nowadays, regardless of media, are not horrific or give you the feeling of being scared unless you are like 5 years old. Everything goes with the cheap scare tactics of startling you when you least expect it.


That being said... the Ishimura is definitely one of the creepiest locales in Survival Horror video gaming.

Dead Space is a "monster closet" type of game, as opposed to the ambient style horror of Amnesia or Silent Hill 2, etc., so it won't really be "scary".
Plus, the death animations are entertaining enough that you won't really dread dying.

The thing with action horror games like this and The Suffering and such is that, once you are presented the enemy monster, you can just blast them away pretty easily. The only way to scare is with shock and surprise, since the mere presence of enemies does nothing.

That being said, it will make you paranoid about monsters attacking you in elevators or while in the store.

Although DS2 does a good job of adding new types of enemies whose very presence is scary due to being annoying/difficult to get rid of... ****ing babies
