this year saw the release of SMiLE.

While it's nice that we finally got an official version of the album, several versions of SMiLE had already been released. A sort-of-rerelease of an album isn't a good argument for 2011 having been an excellent year for music.

there had been no beach boys release of smile. there was a 60 year old brian wilson version of smile, but not a version of the beach boys in their prime. bootlegs don't count

There had been Smiley Smile, though. A lot of the SMiLE tracks were already released on that album, if I'm not mistaken.

I meant "argument" as in "point." You gave the release as SMiLE as one of the reasons why 2011 has been an excellent year for music.

smiley smile is an incomplete fragmentary rendition of smile, with less than half the tracks on smile and even the tracks that are shared with smile are incomplete. smile, as an album, was started in 66, completed in 2011, and released to the public in 2011. it is, therefore, a 2011 album.

as for changing 'argument' and 'point,' that's irrelevant because they're the same thing.

the implication of this sentence is that my only argument for 2011 as a great year for music is the release of smile. that's not the case as the next sentence, and posts both prior and subsequent, build my argument beyond that. you are completely ignoring the context of a statement and arguing against something i never said.

Fair enough - I always figured Smiley Smile was a more or less complete rendition of SMiLE. I'll take back my statement, then.

No, it isn't - that's the implication you're giving to the sentence. I never said that was your only argument. I have the ability to read, so I obviously saw that you gave multiple points to back up your "2011 is an excellent year for music" argument. I was only attacking the specific "SMiLE got released" portion of your argument.
