No, she's just using copyright to justify this. I see now that she's trying to balance protection and freedom. I still don't see how it relates to the amendment at all though.

american copyright laws are so jank to begin with, and then this comes along....
I dont like it when people illegally download something brand new, or a few years old. But after 5 or so years....ya a company has more often than not made close to 99% of the profit it will make on a product.
If valve needs portal to still sell a bunch of copies to stay a float, then id say valve doesn't deserve to be in business.
If nintendo still needs twilight princess to sell a bunch of copies to avoid bankruptcy, then nintendo doesn't deserve to be in business.
Same goes with music. I don't listen to any modern music, but a band who released a CD in 2006 doesn't deserve to still be in the industry if they need that CD to sell.
I have no idea how you could regulate brand new works over the internet and make the rest enter public domain, so i feel something like SOPA would only be destructive to the internet.
I feel like weve reached a point in americana where these big companies are given safety nets after theyve reached a certain amount of wealth. Its pretty pathetic that people still respect so many companies that don't even innovate their business anymore, they just demand the government to force legislation to allow them to be lazy. There is a reason why movies in general have been recycled garbage for about a decade now.

The problem with SOPA is that it's the equivalent of stopping rape by cutting off everyone's dicks. It addresses a few problems but creates a bunch of more terrible ones.
I feel bad for making this comparison and you should feel bad if you think it was a good one.
If you value your internet at all you'll contact your Representatives and Senators and tell them if they support these bills that you won't be supporting them ever again.
then next in line comes in and continues to rape liberty with a barbed wire *****, nothing changes and they know it.
remember when people were fed up with wars no one wanted, propaganda, citizens being spied on without warrant, people being deported to foreign prisons without trial, and knee jerk reacted into electing obama and a democratic congress? notice how all of those things have only been escalated? the US government is openly rigged, get out now while you can.
Something really needs to be done about representatives not understanding what they're voting on. I realize they can decline to vote, but that's really not enough.
I will, however, admit that I have no idea what that something could be.

I can pretty much guarantee nothing would have been different under McCain
that was exactly my point, now people are saying "anyone but obama", you really think gringrich or romney are changing anything? you don't have a real choice, the democratic and republican parties are both working towards the same objectives of stripping the american people of their rights and freedoms. telling your representative you won't vote for them doesn't mean a damn thing to them.
Metal_DK posted... You want to let your voice be heard? Stop watching movies. Stop going to movies. A big reason why this is happening is because of the movie industry.
I don't think Hollywood studios making less money would make anybody more lenient on anything. Sure studios have sued people etc, same with the music industry, not really the key issues at hand here though.
And of course how about the game industry, any profit industry does what they can against piracy. Boycotting any of them doesn't do anything to help internet rights, net neutrality, etc.

fair enough, but a major backing force on the bill is the movie industry. But yes, you are right about the issue with basic internet rights.

"You guys are all aware the Obama White House dropped the threat to veto NDAA and demanded that language protecting citizens from unlawful detaining be removed, right?"
this implies he ever intended to veto. his actions as president have shown he's a proponent of indefinite detention.
