How could it be good if its not fun? <_<

Its good - free - mmo. As in any free games out there that are good aren't an mmo, if its an mmo there must be a catch in that it costs moolah or it sucks ass.

Oh, I suppose that makes sense. I just think of it as the MMO triangle so I never really considered MMO being part of the triangle >_>

It's usually "good, free, online" which might sound more "correct" to you, instead of MMO.

I second Dungeon Fighter Online. It's a sidescrolling beat-em up kinda game with different classes that play quite differently. I played a decent amount without spending any money at all and still had quite a bit of fun. You can basically buy cosmetic upgrades for your character (that you can get through other options in the game) or really good weapons. The only downside is that you have so many action points for a day and they go down based on each room you enter. So you can only play for a limited time (although it's a pretty decent amount) each day.

Atlantica Online has paid for stuff, but you can sell it in game, so either you can play the game for ages and get enough money in-game to buy the stuff off other people or buy it and sell it in game to get rich early on, depending on what you wanna do.

Most of it is stuff like rare horses, or items needed to unlock rare characters and things, but apart from a few cosmetic items, it's mostly stuff you can get in the game, just with a ridiculously low drap-rate.

As for the game itself, it's set on Earth and all the characters are historical, either fictional or otherwise. You choose from one of nine classes, but you can then recruit other characters to join your team for a total of nine, then you fight other teams of nine on 3x3 grids and it's turn-based. So, faster characters go first at the start of each round. You can team up with two other people and their nine-man teams for massive turn-based 27-on-27 matches.

S'fun.

SMT Imagine Online.

Seconding that, one of the best F2P out there if only because the gameplay is not cookie-cutter like most of other F2Ps. The game is classless so you pretty much level up what you like using and imo it's a feature that should be in more mmos (if not all of them). And then since it's SMT you can have demons ! Demons are pretty much like a pet who follow you around and has skills and spells, you can fusion them to get stronger ones or you can negociate with wilds one in order to convice them to join you! It's kinda pokemon-ish but it's nice ! There are a lot of demons to choose from to and a ton of them are viable so you don't have to pick that one demon that surpasses all the other ones.

Otherwise.. there's Lineage 2 that went F2P lately, it's 100% free and the cash shop only has XP boosters. Though the servers are crowded as hell atm because of this so you can't expect anything above 20FPS unless your PC is a beast from hell.

Dragon Nest, Dungeon Fighter Online and Vindictus are three good ones, instanced areas with really action-y combat, feels almost like a beat'em-all in that regard, Vindictus and Dragon Nest play similarily, the first one has a more realistic artstyle and the second one is really animu. Dungeon Fighter Online was popular for a while here on B8, Pun even maxed a character ! This one has already been described above so I won't describe it myself.

Otherwise there's Mabinogi (which I already have a write-up for, no idea why but it's there) so : Aaah Mabinogi, such a unique MMO, it's so different from everything else in the market yet it's so fun ! The game is heavily influenced by the Celtic culture and Mythology so if you're into that it's worth a look for that reason alone. What I like the most about this game though is the combat, it's kinda like a game of Rock Paper Scissor (Melee combat at least) but with more layers of complexity. For instance there are 2 basic melee skills named '' Defence '' and '' Smash '' and then there's the basic attack. The Basic Attack is blocked by Defence and opens up the attacker for retaliation, Defence is bested by Smash which goes right through it and Smash is bested by the Basic Attack which is faster. That's the basic of Melee combat in Mabinogi, then there are other skills like Counter Attack that beats Smash and the Basic Attack and Windmill that beats everything but Defence at the cost of 10% of your HP. What you get then is a combat system that necessitate strategy to be used to its full extent, you can't spam the basic attack over and over hoping to win, it's not gonna happen save for the very first dungeon and even then it's risky. No, you need to observe and act in consequences (there's a skill to detect what your enemy is gonna use, or you can just look at its behaviour, every single monster changes the way it acts depending of the action it prepares). Then there are also other means of doing damages, Magic, Range and Alchemy.

What's nice with Mabinogi is that the game is classless, kinda ala Runescape for those of you who played that, you gain exp in skills you use, once the skill is ready to level up you have to spend APs to get it to the next level (you get AP by gaining level and Aging). There are also other skills called life skills, those are the crafting skills and misc skills (like music playing skills, that allows you to buff your bros by playing when you get good enough). That classless system makes the game really fun and really helps making every character different to one another because most players won't level the same skills.

This game as a F2P has a Cash Shop, obviously, fortunately the cash shop doesn't make the game Pay To Win, sure people spending money will get slight advantages over non-payers (like better repair chances, mounts, etc), back in the days it was Pay To Win because to continue getting AP at a good rate past a certain age (Your character gets 1 year older every weeks, past 20 it's not really worth aging more) you have to rebirth, to rebirth you need a character card and those were Cash Shop only, nowadays you get a free one whenever your character gets to level 20 so even free players can rebirth, people who want to rebirth more often can still buy cards though. The community is really good too, most people are really nice and helpful, I don't remember having a single bad experience with another player.

Anyway, this MMO is probably my favorite F2P MMO of all, I've actually just gotten back into it cause they've added a bunch of cool new features, like Lance, Homesteads and a new act based on Shakespear's act '' Romeo and Juliet '' (The act before that was based on Hamlet). A really good F2P, definitely worth a look if you're bored and craving for some MMO goodness. The only real con of this game is the gold sellers, they exist but they're not as annoying as they were back in the day, and now there are ways to deal with them (An item that sends a captcha to the seller and if it doesn't get it right it's instant kick).

There're also..

-Rohan : Blood Feud that adds a twist to the boring grind (you get XP multiplayers every X amount of kills).
-Requiem : Bloodymare if you just want to see monster parts go flying everywhere in a gory fashion.
-Sword of the New World (Now called Sword 2 I think) which allows you to control 3 characters at the same time
-Anarchy Online (That old Funcom mmo) which has a F2P option, played it back then, it was pretty cool but the leveling curve is steeper than most mmos.
-Runes of Magic if you just want a WoW clone

DCUO is the only PS3 MMO, but that probably doesn't matter to you(it's also on the PC). both DCUO and EQ2 are pretty heavy on transactions, EQ2 more than DC.

DC you can only make a couple characters for free, but almost all of the game is playable. You will have restrictions on how much currency and items you can hold, you cannot create guilds, and a few of the powersets are locked. The gameplay is more action-heavy, and it's best to use a controller or gamepad.

EQ2 has similar restrictions on coin, items, and bank slots, and in addition many races are locked to free players. Some of the endgame content will be available only to those who purchase the latest expansions.
