It doesn't matter how you do, you are going to pass the class (unless you ****ed up enough that failing hinges on you getting an A on the exam, in which case that's your own fault). Staying up all night isn't going to do anything for you. It is better if you sleep early, and then wake up and study until the final anyways. But regardless, for the large majority of us, your final GPA when you get your degree isn't going to mean ****. General employers just want to see that you were able to commit to and complete college.

If you are in a major where a certain GPA is required to get into a different school, such as a business school or medical school, well you can just ignore this as it doesn't apply to you.

doesn't your GPA also matter if you plan on going to grad school?

but otherwise, yeah I agree. I just got done with finals and I didn't do any all nighters or anything, I do a lot better if I get some rest and just study for an hour or two before class.

Yeah, you should really kind of quickly review everything you need to for the exam, sleep on it, and then study more right before. Sleeping kind of solidifies stuff in your brain. And studying right before makes it fresh.

If you're in architecture this is completely useless information, as you probably haven't slept for 3 days by now. But for everyone else, :)

Well, at least at Michigan, you basically have 2 kind of "regular classes," that you go to lecture for and have tests in etc. that are of moderate difficulty. But then you've got Studio all 4 semesters, which is 6 credits each time, and then 2 out of 4 semesters you've got Construction, which is 4 credits each time. And Construction is basically the same amount of work as studio.

Studio is basically one whole semester spent on developing the same project, with maybe one or two week long smaller projects thrown in at the beginning to get you started on the large project. The final review of the project... I can't really put into words how much work it is to produce schematic drawings and 3D models and physical models and renderings and diagrams and etc etc etc. There's just so much stuff, that there's no possible way to get it all done. The reason is because the professors have you changing things until the very last second. And if you change one part of the project on one thing, you have to do it on everything. And then of course you have to plot your drawings, mount them, get or make stands for your models. It's just a massive amount of work. And I'm not joking when I say people literally do not sleep for days to get it all done. I've had people in my studios miss their review because they seriously just pass out. They can't help it.

So then, add to that two other classes that you've got finals to study for, or maybe another small project to do with a group or something, plus Construction, which is basically like studio except for everything actually has to make physical sense. And yeah. You're not sleeping lol.

tl;dr -- You get assigned more work than is physically possible to complete, but you still have to try to complete it all. The only thing I can really equate it to is law school. It's hardcore but you feel really accomplished when it's done.

That's an interesting take on it, but my parents would kill me if I had less than satisfying grades.

Well ExTha, I would first like to thank you for your confidence in me being elected... and I know. However, at least we would live together. Now she lives in the city for most of the year and I live in the suburbs.

Are you sure she's working 24/7 on her projects? She's probably just cheating on you.

Well, it's a lot of work that's fore sure. You have to be pretty dedicated. Like, if you go to college for architecture, don't expect to have the normal partying college experience. I think I was able to go out once a month. And that was if I forced myself to instead of sleeping like I wanted. It makes your friends outside of architecture think you're just really lame. BUT, it can be worth it.

And WC, your girlfriend wouldn't have the energy to cheat on you if she wanted to. Which I'm sure she does not :)

The college I went to is starting to phase out the final exams in exchange for an additional 10-page writing project.
