Transatlanticism is fantastic. However, I don't think it could ever top Title and Registration for me... there's just something so perfect in its simplicity.

Thoughts?

I can't really say which song from the album I prefer. I'd say it bounces from Title and Registration to Transatlanticism to Passenger Seat. At this moment in time, it'd probably go

Passenger Seat
Title and Registration
Transatlanticism

All three songs are the highlights of the album for me, though. I dig We Look Like Giants, but the end drags on a teeny bit for me, but the song is still held up by the climax in the middle of it.

I'm slightly surprised a Plans song didn't make it on, though not too surprised considering the two per artist limit. I've said before that Plans has the better individual tracks, but Transatlanticism is easily the better album. It flows much better and is an album I normally prefer to listen to as a whole.

Title and Reg is God Damned amazing but Trans has this grandiosity to it that can't be touched. Title and Reg is this gigantic piece of symbolism while Trans is flat out

I NEED YOU SO MUCH CLOSER.

It's one of the few times Ben Gibbard just comes right out and delivers the message and what a message it is.

#2 being written as we speak.

GREAT stuff, wonderful top 10

My favorite part of Eternal Sunshine has gotta be Jay TRIUMPHANTLY crescendoing "couldn't be stupider [louder], ****in' with the nuclear, Mayan Aztec lion [ROAR], Asiatic Black man from Zion"

give me goosebumps every time over that soft piano

The first verse of Voodoo Man or the opening verse of Paper Thin.

Those are Bars that literally make me want to rap just to see if I can outdo him.

bravo, man

All My Friends has never been more relevant... we are a generation that only has nostalgia. The present is so bleak for all of us it's no wonder why the first 20 years will be the peak of our lives.

Even more so now.

People are shocked that the current generation is the way it is but didn't they KNOW this would happen when we were raised on the internet?

When we finally realized that the world was very, VERY small and that all the things we thought made us special were in fact common traits tons of people possessed.

Even worse is the fact that the youth look up to us which means they're even more boned than we are.

All My Friends manages to capture this angst in 7:37 seconds. Perfect.

All My Friends sooooo good. Here's what I had written about it back in May:

This song is amazing. I had never heard an LCD Soundsystem song before this one. I listened to Sound of Silver after hearing this, and this song is an album killer. Every song before this one (with the exception of Someone Great) is nothing but “the song before All My Friends” and every song after this one is “this song isn’t All My Friends. It’s sad, really, and I let Rusty hear my displeasure with the way he killed Sound of Silver for me. I still need to hear other songs in LCD Soundsystem’s discography, but I’m nervous that I’ll never fully be able to enjoy them because I heard this crown jewel first. I will forever hold them up to this standard. I love this song. It quickly became one of my all-time favorites. That incessant piano is like a clock throughout the entire song. It’s amazing. All My Friends is a song about looking back, but the piano keeps us moving forward. I could continue into more philosophical bull**** that would make me puke if I reread it, but I’m not going to. I absolutely love the way the song forms around the piano, the way more is added to it. It starts as a crawl, but before you know it, the song is at full speed. It just keeps building and building, and by the time he starts singing “Where are your friends tonight?” you realize how great the previous six minutes were. While listening, you had taken for granted everything that had flown into and out of your ears, and it’s this one moment that makes you realize all that is gone and you are at the end. That’s what “Where are your friends tonight?” is for me. Every time, it makes me realize that this song is awesome, but now it’s over, and it leaves me sad. I had before said the song didn’t live up to its potential, but after repeated listens, I started to realize how powerful that moment of the song was. I kept replaying this song, and I couldn’t figure out why. And then I saw that it was “where are your friends tonight?” that kept making me miss everything I had just heard. This song makes me fearful for the future. Someday years from now, I’m going to hear this, and it’s going to break me down. I’m going to look back at my life, and I’m going to want to redo everything. But I’ll realize I can’t. And just like I can’t replay this song forever, I’ll need to move on. I don’t look forward to that day, but at the same time I do.

Since then, I've learned to appreciate all of Sound of Silver (that first half of the album rivals any set of five songs in any order from any album I've ever heard), as well as the rest of LCD's discography. Everything after that part still holds true. All My Friends is still the shortest eight minutes ever, and it's still making a case to be my favorite song ever. With college graduation looming in a week, this song becomes even more powerful. Feels bittersweet, man.

I remember first hearing LCD Soundsystem on the FIFA 06 soundtrack with Daft Punk is Playing at my House.

For some reason I loved that wacky s***. All My Friends is in another universe though. I love songs that make me introspective and sorta melancholy (why I love Sigur Ros so much), and it just does that so well.

I dunno, I just don't find it musically interesting at all.

Personally speaking:

The Pledge > Geese > Alesund > B.O.B. > Hurt > Svefn-G-Englar > Transatlanticism > Gone > I Dream A Highway > All My Friends

Don't like Such Great Heights. Never have.

Brand New Colony and DC Sleeps Alone are the best from that album.
