So a few things that I am noticing...

-Is it me, or does this season have like 10 storylines that they keep dropping for no reason?
-So I guess that theory that Gellar is a vision is over right? Or else they are reallyyyy stretching that Colin Hanks would somehow chain himself to the floor
-Quinn is such a good character

-Is it me, or does this season have like 10 storylines that they keep dropping for no reason?

Ehh, its been pretty standard dexter as far as multiple storylines going on. Last year was actually really bad with those in regards to giving us payout on anything(The main Dexter storyline was basically the only one that went anywhere interesting).

This season could have decent payout on multiple storylines, but its suffered from some really terrible episodes. there definitely is some storyline dropping potential there though(Random ice truck killer evidence, hopefully this comes back for -something-).

-So I guess that theory that Gellar is a vision is over right? Or else they are reallyyyy stretching that Colin Hanks would somehow chain himself to the floor

Alternatively, its his other self chaining himself down before giving up control. We dont know for certain, but lots of things so far point to it being a vision(Including Dexter getting a terrible "get a new vision" episode. That episode established Dexters vision doing things that should be impossible.)

Gellar is for real I think, otherwise they're really bad. Quinn and Laguerta need to go AND FAST. Masuka's female assistant was the most interesting. Deb is very whiney this season.

The only thing I can think of with Colin Hanks chaining himself up is this:

Gellar is a split personality (or a Dark Passenger). Hanks chained himself up before Gellar took over the body, and only Hanks knows where the key is or something. He can't unchain himself until he's back in control, and thus his Gellar personality can't make him do the stuff that Hanks doesn't want to do.

it's gonna be like psycho/fight club, imo. too much hinting at it - the scene red pointed out sticks out to me

masuka's second intern and mike are good introductions by the show. they haven't done too much but they're fresh eyes who realized what every viewer of the show realized long ago, which is that dexter is way the f*** better at his job than anyone else in the department - which is weird.

I don't really get the suspicion about Dexter being really good at his job.

Disappearing to Nebraska for 5 days is one thing, but being good at your job shouldn't really draw suspicion.

it's more the fact that no one else in the department is remotely as good (or should i say effective) at his/her job as dexter (apparently) is. anderson clearly describes dexter as a 'rock star'

The weird thing about Dexter is that... people only imagine others who are dead, implying that ghosts may actually exist within the context of the show.

Maybe I'm wrong, I don't recall Dexter imagining someone who was alive...

Oh, but Travis imagining Gellar, would mean that Gellar is likely dead, it is a high profile case, so if there were an innocent Gellar hanging around, someone ought to have noticed.
Or... he could be a ghost!!

Can't Dexter just use his skill to help Deb catch this one single killer? Deb could lose her job and Dexter just keeps screwing things up (as usual for the police). Harry's Code was to kill criminals that the police didn't catch but he's been hiding evidence and screwing things up more and more as the seasons went on..

Huh I hadn't really thought of that. It made sense with Trinity because he was trying to learn from him, and in Season 5 he was helping Lumen, but there really isn't much of a reason for him going vigilante this season.

He was already doing stuff before he knew Travis was good. He was hoping that Homicide wouldn't figure out that DDK was actually 2 people, and he kidnapped Travis in the car, most likely with intent to kill him IIRC.

Watching the ShoRunners thing after the episode was hilarious.

The guy was talking about how Hall and Olmos were the only actors he told about Gellar being a ghost, and not even the directors knew. He seemed pretty confident that nobody figured it out. XFD

Also, the worst part of this episode was definitely Aimee Garcia having a sex scene with the camera 100 yards away. Also, what exactly is the significance of whatshisface having the Ice Truck Killer evidence? How does being him being interested in that impact anything? Are we supposed to think he's Brian's son now or something?

i was hoping (in utter vain) that the ice truck killer hand would actually be related to the missing hand. 'whoops'

getting really hard to defend the show now with how sloppy many of the facets are. i still hold that the plot twist itself is quite good, but stuff like what AKJ pointed out just weakens it a s***ton. oh, and deb's spiel better lead somewhere by the end of the season. i don't want to see her just go back to dexter at the end of it like nothing happened.

I was really hoping that Gellar wouldn't be dead. That the writers would throw a curve ball in this season. What a lame predictable twist.

The fluff with LaGuerta and the new intern doesn't seem promising at all either. Calling that Deb ends up back with Quinn.

Harry is still annoying as hell. I hate him so much. The show would be so much better without Ghost Harry. The only reason I was even a little excited at Ghost Brian was so Harry wouldn't be there.

I was excited when they were going to have a guy who apparently wrote a book detailing 'virtues of atheism' since Dexter has talked to all manner of religious folk this season and is so.. 'impressionable' he's taking it to heart. Dexter just dwells on everything any random person says to him for complete seasons, it's so frustrating. Do we get a new look? No, the Atheist is a complete douche and gets killed two seconds later. Predictable.

meh, why not keep this alive til next week.

i read an amazing theory on the cable board which i won't post here in even remote detail since i'm worried i may jinx it. long story short: apparently the last two episodes of the season will send dexter into something approaching endgame mode.

my enthusiasm is renewed in triplicate.

yeah, but if the rumors (see vintagegin's post) are true, then i believe that the interns' plot will have more to do with the final arc(s) than our lady travellar. and again, i don't think that was a bad twist really.

if the interns' plot really does carry on to the endgame then it will impress me more than anything the writers have done n the past 3 years including anything with trinity and possibly even S3.

This perhaps the most succinct telling of why this season has been garbage

In order to pull off the twist, it wasn’t possible to have Dexter doggedly pursuing the Doomsday Duo. He had to have his hands full with other things—The Tooth Fairy, Harrison’s illness, Brother Sam’s murder, Brian’s brief return—because it would strain credulity that Dexter could have meticulously observed Travis as he normally does his prospective victims, and not figure out that Gellar wasn’t real. The Ghost Gellar twist was awful to its core, a poorly executed take on a shopworn idea.

dexter not doggedly pursuing the doomsday duo doesn't really make it a bad twist. and i don't particularly think that anything in that paragraph proves that the twist was 'awful to its core.' it's more stated than justified. i mean, yeah, it would strain credibility for dexter to meticulously observe travis as he does his normal prospective victims... so?

solid episode last night though, all told. intern storyline by far the most interesting thing of the season, though travis's sudden heel turn has been very entertaining too.

(and last night's episode was only good by comparison to the handful before it. it was still like a C/C+. i could go into a laundry list of issues, but I don't have time before work. maybe later)

I don't think you really get what a MacGuffin is...

Hint: It can't really describe a person, unless that person is interchangeable with an object and people literally want to obtain that object. Helen of Troy, for instance.

You could make a better argument that faith and religion in general are the MacGuffins of the season, but that extends way beyond Brother Sam.
