Lifeline. Such an awesome concept, badly let down by technology. Get the voice recognition working, remove the awful combat, and put in more parts where the operator has to access the system for Rio, and it would be incredible.

Or Dragon Age II. I liked it, but it should (and could) have been MUCH better than it was if they'd devoted the time spent fiddling with DA1's mechanics and art style to making some more maps instead.

brawl is another good one, it's amazing that it turned out so badly since you literally have to try to ruin that concept so badly, but sakurai literally tried to make it a bad game and he was quite successful

Only correct answer, and this is a perfect explanation for why. Tripping and the like are literally attempts to make the game suck more, and oh man, the SSE might be the biggest waste of development manpower in gaming history.

Fable, or the Fable series in general I guess.

Back when it was Project Ego and Molyneux was doing what Molyneux does (massively HYPE a game and then massively DISAPPOINT people who followed the development), the ideas that were being tossed around were even more advanced than the stuff that's going to be in like, Skyrim. Instead we got a simple RPG with linear pathing and good/evil choices being insanely black and white and having no real consequences in the end.

Really my only suggestion to make it more like Chrono Trigger is the battle system. The other suggestions are more like "Make it less like Chrono Cross and more like other traditional jRPG's." I'm not saying make it hand-drawn 2D or anything like that (even if that would be awesome).

I would say Chrono Cross but it's a really really good game. It just didn't live up to Chrono Trigger. But still, Chrono Cross.

Suikoden 4. Series might still be alive if that game had been great instead of... What it is.

(Dis)honorable mention to Capcom Fighting Evolution. Concept had a lot of potential, but it was executed about as badly as possible. (Although I kinda liked the Warzard characters <_<.)
