it's so weird, I've never seen so many people become enamored with an entire genre, like, by name.

People always just talk about "dubstep", never about specific artists, songs, albums, etc.

It's like if we had facebook in the 80s and a bunch of people made statuses like "listening to hip hop lol"

i realize you're being facetious, but here:

dubstep is a region-specific (Bristol & London mostly) musical movement that has mostly died out because the djs/producers have moved on to other genres like house and techno.

thanks.

so the **** skillrex make is what the people who enjoy his **** classify as dubstep? what can i call his stuff, then? no, i do not listen to him... i just know whenever i hear one of his song or see his name or whatever, it's always gonna be those wub crap.

is this any relation to classic hiphop/rap and modern hiphop/rap? or is this just not classified as dubstep at all.

and thanks. that's exactly what i'm seeing and hearing. people enjoying stuff like skillrex. i can't stand it. I DONT GET IT

but i do enjoy your name. how u get a name like dat.

umm, and Skillrex's techno/trance part is alright... but when you hear the wub part it just dropped from like... 7/10 to 0/10

it's weird. american producers were enamoured with one specific technique used in UK Bass, the wobble bass, that they made an entire genre out of it, and it became hugely popular in clubs. and because the range of music one can make with a single technique is so limited, american producers have resorted to the same technique major labels have for pop: cut out any sense of melody, harmony or rhythm, and give the consumers nothing but an insanely loud chorus.

there are plenty of other reasons american dubstep (also called brostep) has evolved into the mess it has, but that's the jist of it.

like I said, most UK producers have moved on to house, trance and techno. If you're interested in a few of them, here are some names to check out: Burial, Shackleton, Actress, Pearson Sound.

This is true. Unfortunately a vast majority of people think that its all original work, when in fact they've taken it of a classic 90s trance track!

Makes me sick.

:( I can see it... i listen to trance and techno. i listened to rock before, from the emo rock (eh, tastes change) to classics like rhcp. my taste in music is whatever... but my honest thought is that i don't enjoy music as much as i did before. shame on me, i wonder when will it be possible for me to just listen to music (that i like) over and over nonstop

ty Phoenix Wright, u r always right!

skillrex... hah, it's a shame... I mean, i don't like to call someone's music bad or anything... but i mean when i think about it...

how can you listen to it? it doesn't have any catchy melody during all those wobble... it doesn't make you want to hear more... that's how it's like for me. it gives me a migraine if anything... hearing it all too loud. one of my friend enjoys high pitch girly robotic voice over and over and wobble songs. a few other listens to the wobbles, etc.

I tried listening to that Skrillex song, but only got halfway before I said..."screw that".

A large amount of dubstep is terrible, many of them are pointless remixes of other songs that make them sound really bad and unnecessary.

It's because there aren't just specific artists, songs, etc., EVERYONE is adding dubstep elements into their songs.

But yeah I don't mind dubstep. I've always liked electronic music, though dubstep is usually too boring for me (even though I do like slower electronic stuff like trance and french house), but my favorite has always been drum 'n bass.

Now THERE's something to complain about. This trend of new-type pendulum-esque "drum 'n bass" that has barely any drum or bass.... that's ****ing dumb.

Dubstep is overrated by its lovers and undermined by its haters.'

The haters act like there's no good dubstep, and usually oversimplify it by generalizing it as wub wub wub. Dubstep can be pretty nice, and dubstep elements mixed with other electronic can be cool too.

this is pretty interesting
(btw the guy says he meant it to be dubstep and brostep is only part of the title)

umm, and Skillrex's techno/trance part is alright... but when you hear the wub part it just dropped from like... 7/10 to 0/10

the wub part does fit the title though, and the rest of the song is alrite(some, but not all, of the singing parts are iffy though, since they're not too often and also somewhat fit the title it doesn't really take away from it) so I don't know if i'd drop it that far.
