I thought the intro with footage of actual gameplay was funny. The dude just runs around in circles dodging this flying bird creature for a couple minutes before shooting it twice to knock it down, and then a 3rd time in the head.

Hey I don't do play-through topics. I just wanted to point this out. I guess I could comment every so often on what's going on. My only experience with the series has been Silent Hill 2, which I played because everyone said it's the best. I liked it and hated it at the same time. I was also playing on a television that was dying at the time, so it was darker than normal.
What I liked - The atmosphere, characters, story, and how it wasn't like most horror games I've played. I love Resident Evil, but most horror games, or games that have elements of horror in them have different types of scares. Silent Hill 2 made me feel weird.
What I didn't like - Actually playing it. The controls are bad and there were were so many locked doors.

Go I hated Silent Hill 2 for that. I tried so hard to enjoy it but 1. The enemies were useless and not threatening at all. 2. The gameplay was literally running around unlocking doors for hours on end - yes I'm looking at those damn apartments. Too many things to list.
I played Silent Hill 1 first and thought it was ok, it has good atmosphere and threatening enemies but terrible graphics and controls.
So I thought SH2 would be the best...really not very good. Pyramid Head's treatment was fantastic though - just turning up when you least expect it without fanfare. Other characters were terrible.
Well I've played for about 3 hours. I'm stuck on some puzzle involving a piano. I get what I'm supposed to do, but I have to hit a certain combination of keys in a certain order, so I'll probably be stuck on that for a little while.
I totally forgot how Silent Hill works and I guess I can expect the same for the whole game. It's not really scary at all. The first hour or so was pretty creepy of Silent Hill 2, and then I realized, nothing ever happens. You always know if an enemy is nearby and they're always incredibly slow.
Still, I supposed I'm enjoying it. I just sat back and played the game non-stop, so it's definitely not boring. Trying to figure out what house to go in on the street was pretty annoying.

Atmosphere makes that series entirely. I think the locked doors are really important in that aspect, I know how much when I faced a door I was begging it was locked. So it has that suspense factor.
Regarding enemies being easy, your fault for playing it on easy or whatever. And Silent Hill 3 ended up fixing that anyway.

I'm playing on normal difficulty. Does playing on hard give the enemies better AI?

Dude I always turn the radio off, I have no idea why this was a good idea. Something about the radio being associated with danger, but I felt it was way scarier to see silent enemies just appear.
