How many times will Proto Man die until I either quit (extremely likely) or complete this challenge? Keep in mind I’m pretty rusty, and Proto Man takes extra damage. Also, those of you who have played it know that Hard Mode in MM10 is far from easy. Finally, keep in mind that the odds of me continuing the challenge if I’m not done with it by the time MW3 is released are extremely low. That said, I’ve completed my first stage and intend to post a write-up after I finish it. SNL takes priority, though. In the mean time, feel free to post ridiculous numbers!

At least you can actually buy E-Tanks unlike MM9 Proto Man

My bet is that you'll quit at Wily Stage 2 if not before then. No way you get past that without quitting if you're already this bent out of shape after 1 stage

I remember the first time I tried this I died in a stage in literally 5 seconds.

I did this around when the game first game out, didn't seem too terribly difficult to me. I mean it took a lot of retries, but you just have to beat it one stage at time, just requires some persistence.

Indeed, SNL did not happen.

When I did Hard Mode with Mega Man, I remember Commando Man, Strike Man, and Wily 2 being AWFUL, so you’re right, I’ll probably quit. I don’t think I’m getting bent out of shape, though… I’m just bored at the moment. I like to make up percentages, so here’s one- I’d guess there’s around a 60-70% chance I’ll continue this later.

THE STAGE (On Normal, so certain items are different)

Chill Man
1. Before Proto heads down to the second spike room, he blasts the lone snowman. A health refill! And there’s even a screw beyond it! He must act quickly! He prepares for the jump, but as soon as he jumps, he remembers that grabbing the health refill will freeze time and likely cause him to miss his next jump and die. He redirects back to the initial platform but turns again in the air to face the health at the last moment. He lands on the first platform but slides into the spikes anyways. His first death is just about the stupidest one imaginable.
2. Proto makes it to the next spike room, but fails to gain enough momentum on the ice to clear the SPIKES OF DOOM (A small pit of spikes on the second underground screen)
3. Proto jumped into some more spikes. JUST KIDDING! The enemies from the opening sequence beat him down, mercilessly.

Chill Man
4. Thinking he’ll simply take the path over the SPIKES OF DOOM, Proto fails to treat the ice blocks with the respect they deserve and falls into the spikes above and slightly to the right of the SPIKES OF DOOM.
5. Proto finally makes it past the level’s spikes, but he’s running low on health. Suddenly, a pushy bot smashes into him, ending poor Proto’s life. The bot vaguely reminds Proto of the police.
6. Proto takes the high path mid-level and grabs the extra life sitting there. Unfortunately, when he gets outside, he’s taken down on a cracked ice block by one of those annoying spring things.
7. The boss door is in sight as Proto runs headlong into the final police bot. Chill Man is starting to get bored.

Chill Man
8. Proto’s hubris causes him to forgo his jet when he reaches the SPIKES OF DOOM. They claim another life.
9. With Proto’s pride at stake, he makes another attempt at the SPIKES OF DOOM unassisted. Jet-less Proto – 0 , SoD – 3.
10. Proto is not one to give up without a fight. He tries the SPIKES OF DOOM yet again, but this time, he has learned to carefully gather momentum before the jump. Huzzah! He made it! Having proven himself, he resolves to always use his jet here in the future. He celebrates by jumping into a flying shield.

Chill Man
11. Proto gets off to a strong start, grabbing the 1-up on the high path before falling down to take the low one. A snowman heads him off.
12. Finally, Proto makes it to Chill Man. His buster fully charged, Proto’s entire body flashes yellow with energy as he slides through the door. Proto shoots Chill Man once and dies.
13. Proto takes off a quarter of Chill Man’s health. Feeble.
14. Proto takes over half of Chill Man’s health. Better, but he could use some extra juice…

E-TANK PURCHASED

Chill Man
15. Proto death here is so mundane, it’s not even worth mentioning. But it was mentioned anyways.
16. Proto’s hurting as he makes his way through the stage, but as he’s on the brink of death, both a 1-up and a health refill drop. With a new lease on life, Proto grabs the stage’s 1-up. Sadly, he doesn’t make it to the boss room with this life. Instead, he uses up his jet energy and dies to a trio of snowmen.
17. Elusive spring thing + cracked ice =
18. **** the police.
19. Proto showed such promise earlier, but by the time he enters the boss room, even Chill Man pities him. He doesn’t spout any of Ahnold’s lines from Batman and Robin. Not a one.

Chill Man
20. Again, Proto is lucky enough to get a 1-up drop. This time, though, he forgets to take the high road for the stage’s 1-up. It looks like he’ll have four shots at Chillman. Make that three. Those snowmen near the end of the level are a menace.
21. Having made it to Chill Man, an injured Proto turns inward. There are just two real attempts left in this run. Can he do it?
22. Proto takes Chill Man down to about half health. He’s ready.

Proto and Chill Man are trading blows. When Proto gets low on health, he uses an e-tank. He is shooting Chill Man relentlessly. Wait, how is that fair? Where’s Chill Man’s e-tank?
