Up to this point I had only played it on PC, and man what a difference. What I assumed was heavy input lag and sluggish response innate to the game was actually just innate to the PC version. 360 version feels way better and is actually fun. I've been sort of soft-critical of SF4 in the past but it's apparent to me now that I was just playing the wrong version. My friend's I had tried it with on PC had the same feeling, and now I suspect it's going to move into our rotation of multiplayer games.
So anyway what this means for me on B8 is that I'll probably be playing some AE online for 360, and it would be cool playing it with people here if any of you are interested. My suspicion is I'll be one of the worst connections you can find on B8 because of my location but I'd like to give it a try at least! Fair warning: I am pretty awful so far. I'll improve but for now I'm probably a free win for everyone.
I'm also pretty not good at fighters. Like I know what I'm doing, but I mostly only beat people who are terrible. I only have Super though, not AE, so I don't know if I can play with you.
I haven't tried it yet but I think I can make mine turn in Super and play with people who still play that. Maybe someone with more experience knows for sure.

You can do this. I'm up for some matches actually, although I don't have AE.

Yes, I laugh at my own jokes it's been so long since I've gone to the village to visit my animal friends. I'm excited to play this ****.-Mer
I played some Chun, Sakura, Honda, and Ken. I'm on the fence about Chun but the others are pretty fun. I'll probably play a lot of Chun anyway, I've played her as either a main or secondary character in all the other SF games.
Chun's pretty good in all the versions of SFIV. You don't have to feel bad about picking her like in 3S, anyway! Honda's mean, you can really mess people up with him.
ggs! You're definitely not the worst on B8. There are some people I can beat pretty easily, believe it or not.
thanks! I believe it, your Cammy seemed pretty solid and a couple of those close matches I felt like I got pretty lucky! like when we were both near death and I was just mashing kick buttons hoping I'd chip you before you could kill me, ha.

Yeah 3S is the only one where I have reservations about playing her. I don't play her much online because of that but she's fun to be in all the games in the series.
I chose Honda because I love Mike Ross. Played him two or three times but he seems pretty cool. Since Yo and I were playing with no AE characters, does that mean we were using SSF4 balance? I heard they nerfed Honda for AE.
Anyway my roommates are surfing Youtube which kills my connection for now. Will play some more later when the internet is freed up.
Yeah, you were playing with the original SSFIV balance instead of AE, if you couldn't use those characters. It's nice that you can switch between the two.
Also if anyone else wants to add me on 360 that'd be super cool.

Not sure when exactly but I'll probably on lots for the foreseeable future, assuming my fisher price internet can handle playing online. When Yo and I played it seemed mostly okay early on (my roommates started Youtubing later on and it got pretty bad) so hopefully that's how it'll be with everyone else.
How do you get the 1st alternate set of costumes? I bought the Super and Ultra megapacks or whatever they're called, the things that are supposed to include their entire sets. Do neither of those packs carry the 1st alternate or am I doing something wrong?
I gave them my money! maybe I didn't let it download in the correct way. After buying both those large packs, I should have 3 alternate outfits, right? Right now I just have the main and alt 2 for every character except the AE characters.
Oh yeah! I thought I had downloaded them but apparently I cancelled the big one on accident. So that's done and now I have alternate 2 and 3. Still don't have 1 though!
...and lost the next five. it's gonna be a while before I'm any good! is there any way for those fellows with 3000+ BP to see my newness before joining the match, or do they only see my name and quality of connection?
Nope, no way to see your level until you're already in the match.
You can search for people of "same skill" when trying to join matches, but who knows how wide that window is or how many people are just starting up these days. For now, you might be better just doing endless matches for fun to try and learn the game. Or if you are doing ranked, just don't care too much.

Yeah I tried this, and it couldn't find anyone! I guess everyone is better than me.

Endless match is like a custom room where you can invite a bunch of people, right? And you just cycle through with winner staying? Could be cool to have a regular B8 meetup if that doesn't exist already. I don't mind losing in ranked for now though, I just got to aim for good enough where I don't get embarrassed every match. Got almost double perfected by a Cammy in my second ranked match, that was a yikes moment.
You might have to do it a few times to pick up people. If there's no one available at the time, they're probably in a match against other people. "Same Skill" is the best thing to do if you're just starting out.
my last few games I hosted, that seemed to go okay. my routine will probably go "check for same skill, if can't find any host your own match." seems sensible.
I guess so. I usually stick to "same skill" most of the time, because it has a wide range of high and low. Sometimes you'll get people above you, sometimes it'll be new people below you. Other people will do the same thing, though, so if you host a match they'll probably jump into your game. Late at night is probably the worst time to catch people, in my experience, but that's on PSN instead of XBL. I usually hit up European dudes when that happens!

Yep, that'll get you the most matches.
I wish there was a way to filter based on connection quality or by nation. I put region to all since I have a good connection with a lot of Canada (and for some reason some from Mexico?) and when I search, I'll often end up with a page full of bad connections, half of which are from Australia and Japan.

played a bunch with my best buddy today, we play together so he has the same amount of experience that I do. I am significantly better than him at 3S, and so far it's looking like he's significantly better than me at AE. Destroying everyone I play with nothing but Dan, think I went 3-20 against him.
one of the things I'm struggling with right now is how tough it is to punish things. in 3S, if your opponent throws out something crappy, you can punish with a combo or even just a straight super. It seems pretty tough to punish anything so far in AE. Not sure if that's because punishes work differently in AE vs 3S and ST, or if it's just less that kind of game.
It's not too hard to punish moves in SFIV, you just have to learn how and when. You don't have a parry that you can use at any time, but Focus Attacks are great for catching people who become predictable with their moves. You can FA into Ultra or Super or a combo pretty easy.
ah I see, that makes sense I guess. it was just pretty weird seeing stuff thrown out that you could punish with straight normals in earlier games and having them be able to block before you get those moves out. will mess around with focus attacks and see if I can string them into supers/ultras.
in other news, I am getting continually crushed online. I gotta stop getting into games years after they come out. My Chun, Ken, and Sakura are all doing equally poorly.
