I'm not bothered by this, personally - it definitely makes Family Video seem even more awesome, but nonetheless, it's only a twenty cent price hike. That having been said, though, it's undeniably hilarious they decided to do it right now. Netflix is having the PR fight of their life right now, so isn't this... y'know, the absolute worst time possible to announce something like this? >_>

Huh, that's actually not a bad point. Still though, I could see people being pissed that all this is happening at once.
If Family Video (the only relevant brick-and-mortar rental chain) decides to raise their prices soon, I'll lol so hard.

Correct. The best time to do a price hike is when it will be overshadowed by your competitors.

I saw my family video would give you $5 worth of free rentals if you cancelled your Netflix account
that doesn't seem like enough!
Think of it this way, what's stopping you from just reopening your account afterwards? It doesn't charge you extra to do so, and sometimes you can use a deal for joining Netflix again.
They used to do a similar deal if you let them cut up your Blockbuster card. Which was great, cause you could just get another blockbuster card.
