Both movies in the series were good until the "action". All the scenes where you see people getting jacked just seemed kinda dumb. It was much more interesting just seeing it do weird things around the house for some reason.

See for this kind of thing I'd rather watch one of those "real stories of hauntings" shows. They don't escalate to the level of action that makes Paranormal Activity look silly. Granted, they do it with reenactments instead of "found footage", but at least then you don't have to put up with paper-thin excuses to have cameras running 24/7.

Yeah, I'm really into the "mythology" of horror in films more than jump scares and the like. Some of my favourite parts of the PA films were just when they were looking up internet pages on the differences between ghosts and demons and any parts where they would talk about evil spirits and what they were capable of doing. I finally got to reading your post (I didn't want to take any chances with spoilers) and I agree with the criticism of using tired tropes. I mean having an ethnic woman who is in tune with spirits? Okay... The idea that babies are somehow able to sense the paranormal (babies are dumb as ****, and this really pissed me off), the thing you mentioned about the dad, etc. I mean look at the god damn camera once in a while. So much ridiculous stuff was happening and they checked the replays like twice.

Any other suggestions? I think I'm going to go on a horror kick this week (might as well be festive) and go through 20+ films on Netflix. Suggestions don't necessarily have to be good either. I'm honestly planning to watch The Human Centipede tonight.

I haven't seen it myself, but I want to... but if you can find Grave Encounters, let me know what you think of it.

Yeah [REC] isn't that scary for the whole time but the last ten minutes of it is the creepiest thing I've ever watched

Really? I couldn't force myself to get to the end.
