Capture card. I'd name a specific one, but unfortunately, the one person I look to who is good with these things snapped and disappeared on me a couple of days ago, so I'mma have to take a rain check when it comes to answering specifics.

I'd probably just use my phone or a digital camera. But it sounds like you want to use some sort of crazy capture card setup.

Capturing footage from an emulator, easiest way is FRAPS. If your computer isn't super high tech, you may have to reduce resolution on the emulator so the window size is smaller, and at worst you'll have to record the footage at half speed then double the speed in a video editing program, but that can work. That's what I do while recording out of bsnes:

1 Play game while recording inputs
2 play back inputs while setting emulator to half speed and recording with FRAPS
3 Take FRAPS movie file and put it in a video editor, double the speed while in there. it should all look correct now.

For recording off your TV, you either need a capture card, an HD PVR, or a DVD recorder and DVD ripping software on your computer. In my experience taking footage from emulators is easier but YMMV.

Certain emulators have built-in recording devices, which you can then turn your recording into an .avi movie through the emulator.

That's true as well. Personally I've had more issues with those so I go the FRAPS route, but if that works for you that's probably easiest.

I guess I should explain myself

for the past year, I've had an idea for a youtube show, bargain bin games, where I review obscure games that were bin'd to make room for bigger and better games. I grew up with these kind of games. Infact, I actually made a topic about it asking for opinions about this concept and it was positive.
I actually told my dad that I was gonna do graphics for an actual game (Chester >_> lol) and he said hearing that made him the happiest father in the world cause I'm using my talents for work (even though I was doin it for free, but he didn't know that) . So my dad wanted me to do something with my drawing talent, and I like doing sprites so I figured I should go ahead and test the waters and at least do one episode, for my dad

you more likely to go the emulators route, or the capture off your TV route? I can explain in detail what you need for the emulators but someone else probably knows more than me about capturing footage off your TV.
