I'm trying to think of any (mainly in baseball, football, and basketball). There are various examples of elite players never winning championships (Malone, Marino, etc.)...but are there any who can be considered one of the best ever, yet never made it to the playoffs?

Didn't know that. I guess that's what happens when you play for the Cubs.

Vladimir Krutov is the only one I can readily think of, though he only spent one season in the NHL.

It's really just gonna be people who played in outside America for most/all of their careers or maybe some baseball players, since every other sport has half the league making playoffs each year.

It also happens when the old days of baseball were only the top team from each league went to the World Series.

Don't remember if Banks was playing during the era when there was a league championship or not, but still, even then, only two teams from each league would make the playoffs, so it could be difficult.

Don't know much about the NHL, Nee, but if he only played 1 season it doesn't count to me.

And yeah Leon, makes sense. Any modern era players though?

I've never even been in the main draw of the US Open so I guess that counts.

If the Champions League counts as a playoff for european teams, Pele and Zico.

Sure they never played in europe but bleh.

If you go by World Cup as a playoff, George Best never made it.

Baseball and Football would probably be your best bets for this.

It would be nearly impossible to even be a 1-time All-Star in the NBA and never once make the Playoffs.

Don't know much about the NHL, Nee, but if he only played 1 season it doesn't count to me.

Well, the reason was he played in the Soviet Union for along time, winning medals in Olympics and other international games, and then finally came over to the NHL for one year on a terrible team.
