Looks like an anime version of "The Case of Denzel" from the "On the Way to a Smile" compilation.

Did anyone ever read any of those novellas? I know they all had fan translations. They were pretty good.

Oh right, one last thing about FFVII's cast: One of the great things that makes the cast as great as it is was because of their collective chemistry. They were all very diverse, but yet that diversity worked to bring about a sort of unity. They all work well together. The best RPG main casts are the ones where the characters actually interact with one another and actually seem to enjoy being with each other. A lot of it comes from optional stuff like Barret and Tifa riffing off of each other running up the steps in the Shinra Building, but it's important.

It's part of what makes the casts of games like FFVIII, FFXIII, and Tales of Symphonia as enjoyable as they are. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

I'm late, but better late than never, right?

Bonus Question #1: What is your personal favorite Materia in the game? What are your thoughts on the Materia system in general?

Enemy Skill. There are a few useless skills, but there just so much versatility. You get it relativeley early, and unlike other materias, it never becomes obsolete. Also, it doesn't have a negative effect on HP and strength, which hurts most high level materia. I love the Materia system in general, for the same reasons that have already been mentioned.

Bonus Question #2: What is your favorite Limit Break in the game? Which character overall has the best set of Limit Breaks?

Gotta go with Omnislash. Cloud has the best set imo. Omnislash, Climhazard and Meteorain are all awesome.

Bonus Question #3: Pretty sure I’ve asked this question before, but let’s ask it again: What is your favorite FFVII mini-game?

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of any of them. My favorite is probably Submarine game, and even that is pretty meh.

Bonus Question #4: What is your favorite song(s) from the game?

Hmm, I can't give an exact ranking, so just a short list of some of my favorites:
J-E-N-O-V-A, Still More Fighting, The Great Warrior, Cid's Theme

Bonus Question #5: What is your favorite town in the game? What is your favorite dungeon in the game?

Cosmo Canyon for best town. Favorite dungeon... probably the Temple of the Ancients

Bonus Question #6: How would you rank the cast of FFVII?

Main characters (+ Sephiroth) only:
Aeris > Barret > Cid > Sephiroth > Red > Cloud > Yuffie > Tifa > Vincent > Cait Sith

Bonus Question #7:: Who is your party of choice in FFVII?

Disc 1: Cloud / Aeris / Barret
Disc 2+3: Cloud / Barret / Red (but all the characters ahead of Tifa (excluded) in the ranking get quite a bit of party-time)

I'm not too big a fan of the ending. Maybe the ambiguity is fun, but I dunno. I think it's unsatisfying, there's a lack of character closure here. One of the worst FF endings, almost certainly the worst since they started having impressive graphical budgets. (haven't seen 12's)

Bonus Question #1: What is your personal favorite Materia in the game? What are your thoughts on the Materia system in general?

I'm one of those people who dislikes how it makes everyone clones, but it's quite a solid system past that. A bit broken but fun to tinker with.

For favourite individual materia I'll be boring and say Enemy Skill, but I really like most blue materia in general for the decisions and setups it entails. All and Added Cut in particular.

What is your favorite Limit Break in the game? Which character overall has the best set of Limit Breaks?

I dunno, that's pretty tough. Omnislash is a classic, and Cloud definitely has an excellent set, though I also like Tifa's chain of beatdowns which you control to be lots of fun too.

Pretty sure I’ve asked this question before, but let’s ask it again: What is your favorite FFVII mini-game?

Motorcycle race. Literally played it for hours, and it helps that it's one of the better ways to rack up GP (though basketball is definitely the most efficient IIRC).

What is your favorite song(s) from the game?

Still More Fighting

Honourable mentions, in no particular order, to Cid's Theme, J-E-N-O-V-A, A One Winged Angel, Aeris' Theme, The Great Warrior (despite the scene being stupid) and Anxious Heart. Plenty of good stuff here (I like your entire top five, for instance!). I also tend to agree that while not necessarily the best soundtrack in the series, it's probably the best-used.

What is your favorite town in the game? What is your favorite dungeon in the game?

Is Midgar a town? Favourite dungeon is the Glacier/Cliff/Whirlwind Maze, only #2 on raw gameplay (North Crater trumps everything) but oh yes, that Whirlwind Maze plot.

How would you rank the cast of FFVII?

1. Cloud. So much hype for a main who is actually an unreliable narrator. Has, like, any other game done this? One of the best mains ever, and I don't even dig his style as much as many.
2. Tifa. She's fallen a little for me when I rewatched the game this year, she is a bit annoyingly weak/clingy after Cloud disappears. Still a very fun character for the same reasons Cloud is, I really sympathise with her situation of dealing with crazy Cloud. Totally on board with Leon about the favourite FF female characters it seems!
3. Barret. The dude's a terrorist! The game honestly examines his actions and motives, and he's a really well-rounded character after the Corel backstory stuff. Great.
4. Cait Sith/Reeve. Though a bit unsatisfying later in the game, his turn as a spy and him helping whichever side he felt was in the interests of the people and Midgar was great. Don't trust the mascot character, kids! (I love how his joining is so forced and random and the game makes this a plot point instead of how every other game would treat this.)
5. Rufus. I like him, he's cool, and I always like to believe he hardcore manipulates the party. This is debatable, but I'm sticking to my beliefs.
6. Reno. More coolness. He does some pretty terrible stuff early in the game then spends the rest of it getting drunk and warning everyone not to take their job too seriously. I like what that says.
7. Sephiroth. Awesome troll. His lines after killing Aeris are wonderful. "Don't try to pretend you have emotions!" And the Whirlwind Maze stuff.
8. Cid. Sit your ass down in your chair and drink your goddamn tea!

Everyone below here I am more apathetic to, but...

9. President Shinra
10. Aeris
11. Hojo
12. Red XIII
13. Yuffie
14. Vincent

Fortunately the worst characters are the least important!

Who is your party of choice in FFVII?

Cloud/Tifa/someone.

My personal score for FF7 is 7.5/10 or so. I like it a lot, and for years considered it my third favourite in the series (which I like a lot) though it recently has dropped to fifth as I started to favour gameplay more (which I don't think is the game's strong point!). Still good stuff and have no problem with people who put it as perfect or near to it.

(I'm one of those people who uses 5 as an average of all the games he has played, so a 7.5 means I like a game a lot.)

Speaking of this, how anyone ever gotten seven "Yeah!" slots for Tifa's full Limit Break? I'm not sure I've ever gotten all seven at once period, but I haven't had a lot of play time with Level 4 Limit Breaks that aren't Cloud's, honestly.

I've gotten six, anyway. I tend not to use the L4 unless I'm abusing Premium Heart, because it doesn't feel worthwhile to slow your limit for just one more hit. It's actually not as bad a trade as I used to think, since in Tifa's case (unlike most characters), the L4 isn't -much- slower, but toss in the fact that it is an unusually hard "Yeah!" to hit and I still am not too inclined to bother.

And I always liked the ending. In my mind most the human population was wiped out, except for those few the planet found worthy. Hence Midgar's destruction and the children laughing. I still tend to think this and consider AC an alternate timeline of what happens if the planet lets humans live.

Bonus Question #1: What is your personal favorite Materia in the game? What are your thoughts on the Materia system in general?
Enemy Skill, no question.

Bonus Question #2: What is your favorite Limit Break in the game? Which character overall has the best set of Limit Breaks?
Omnislash. I really like Tifa's set just because getting the whole chain against a boss is awesome.

Bonus Question #3: Pretty sure I’ve asked this question before, but let’s ask it again: What is your favorite FFVII mini-game?
I never really play the mini-games.

Bonus Question #4: What is your favorite song(s) from the game?
I can't pick, there are too many great songs.

Bonus Question #5: What is your favorite town in the game? What is your favorite dungeon in the game?
Cosmo Canyon. Not sure on dungeon.

Bonus Question #6: How would you rank the cast of FFVII?
Main characters (+ Sephiroth) only and only considering FFVII not the other stuff:
Barret > Cloud > Tifa > Red > Cid > Aeris > Sephiroth > Cait Sith/Reeve > Vincent > Yuffie

Bonus Question #7:: Who is your party of choice in FFVII?
Barret/Cloud/Tifa. Red as an alternate. Cid on occasion.

No, it wasn't.

Well, sort of. Sephiroth was manipulating Jenova and accomplishing his will through her. Everything that the Sephiroth you see in Disc 1 did is exactly what the real Sephiroth wanted done.

I remember there used to be a debate about whether Jenova was controlling Sephiroth or Sephiroth was controlling Jenova. Then Square released the Ultimania that definitively stated that Sephiroth was controlling her the entire time.

Oh, and my Sonic Generations order shipped today! HYPE

Also, as a prelude for Final Fantasy Tactics, let's discuss Zodiac stuff. My birthday is March 4, so that's what I always put for Ramza's birthday, which makes him a Pisces (Man, I probably wouldn't know ANYTHING about the Zodiac if not for FFT). Do you guys use your actual birthday for Ramza, or is there a specific sign that's considered "superior" for him to be? I know that he has the highest "compatibility" with female Virgos and the lowest with male Virgos. The two times Ramza has to do anything one-on-one is against Gafgarion and against Wiegraf, so that's somewhat advantageous because they don't do as much damage to you.

My actual birthday is August 13th, so Leo, which is kind of useless. I usually do go with Pisces specifically for surviving Gafgarion and Wiegraf more easily, unless I'm planning on focusing on magic in which I go with...Capricorn I think. Can't remember the date for that though <_< That's most useful for things like SCCs so you can guarantee OHKOs with Flare/Holy/whatever without having to worry about MP issues (mainly for Wiegraf, two Flares on him makes Velius a tighter affair without Ramza contributing)

I used my own playthrough for early/casual playthroughs, but tend to pick specific ones for the challenges I do.

Since most challenges limit the defensive tricks and healing you can use for the Wiegfraf duel, good zodiac (which is Capricorn or Taurus) often helps there. Some challenges instead limit your offence while giving you healing, in which case you want Pisces, or perhaps Gemini/Sag.

And yeah, I'd also know basically nothing about zodiac if not for FFT; instead I have it memorised to an alarmingly pointless degree.

Triple Triad is great. Learn which character cards you can mod early on, too, so you can boost your characters even more.

I think Quistis's card is the one you can mod for something that will give you 300 Triples, which is stupidly broken for how early you can get her card.
