I am on second season now, the wife is so ****ing awful. I like the sister because she is entertainingly dumb, but this wife is so bad. Every scene is awful with her. I guess it's intentional but still.

I'm in early to mid season 2, and Skyler has only done one thing I can fault her for. Sure she's an annoying part of the plot but I think she has every right to be suspicious. And it's not like she can just be okay with Walt lying to her. That's not a healthy relationship.

there are flashbacks later on in the series of a younger skylar and she's a charming, engaging person. the kind you'd like to marry. there are brief glimpses of this in the present, but they're just that: brief.

Wow I never realized how mad cokes is all the time...

Skyler is pretty obviously supposed to be disliked, but she's also the source of like 80% of the drama in the show, so she is definitely necessary. We're not (at least I'm not) saying the character is badly designed, she's just the realistic, grounded, reasonable foil to Walt's insanity, which makes her unpleasant and unlikeable.

I'm enjoying this show so far, but...SEASON 1 SPOILERS




Walt, now a drug dealer and murderer who has a DEA officer as a half brother has so far not only blown up a random jackass's convertible, he went ahead and blew up a major drug dealer's building. All while said half-brother is hot on his trail? Not to mention he DROVE TO THE DRUG DEALER'S PLACE IN HIS FAMILY CAR.

This is not good writing.

The show is interesting, to be sure, but holy crap is it flawed.

It's really hard to suspend my disbelief when the show tries to create suspense in one scene and then has Walt blowing s*** up left and right the next scene. >__>

I disagree. Walt is one of the most fascinating characters I've ever seen on television. I'm not sure how much this has been touched on and expanded in season one, but Walt is FILLED with repressed ambition. In his younger days, he contributed directly to work that led to a Nobel prize. He was a genius on the fast track to everything. Fast forward 25 years, and he's a struggling middle class man teaching high school chemistry. A world-class chemist teaching high school. His ambition, genius, and limitless potential were never realized, buried by the harsh realities of a blue-collar life. He absolutely loathes this reality, and his seething anger manifests itself many times like in those situations you mentioned.

i don't just single out this topic, though, and i detest posts like that (usually). i'm almost always critical of people who can't say things in a thoughtful way. i don't think anyone who spends any significant amount of time talking with me would say otherwise.

i'm happy people are watching one of my favorite shows, and one of the best shows on television. i don't think you can fault me for wanting people to try to engage in some semblance of discussion of what is going on with the show on more than a superficial level
