From: SmartMuffin | #004 There are very few deaf people who play WoW, but there are a ton of people who claim to be deaf as a lame excuse for not using Vent.
Seriously?

About 6 months ago, about 16 deaf people all transferred to our server. I think about 10-12 have cycled through our guild at this point.
Some of them were just plain bad, some of them were ok, and some of them were damn good at what they do. But when it comes to a raid, you just can't communicate to them what you need them to do in the heat of the moment. It's so frustrating!
At one point like 7 of the 25 people in our raid was deaf people, it SUCKED. All of them eventually phased out and stopped playing, thankfully.
A few weeks ago, a decently geared and experienced priest applied to our guild and we took him. Then raid night came.... and it turned out he was another of the infamous 16 deaf server transfers. The guild leader wanted to give him a chance.... then he wiped us 4 times by being in the wrong place and I expelled him from the raid and he eventually gquit >_>

MarvelousGerbil posted... lol "applying" to a guild...
Guilds are so serious business these days.. there once was a girl who attempted suicide in one of the guild I was because of drama (Okay she was crazy to begin with but still).

I've never ran into anyone claiming to be deaf in the game. Plenty of people that won't use vent, but they all have much more mundane excuses than that.

Well, I get why people who don't play wow laugh at applying to guilds, but quite frankly, there are millions of people playing wow, some are good enough to be in my guild, many are not. Though this isn't really a topic to explain wow to THE UNWASHED MASSES

MarvelousGerbil posted... I played WoW, got to 85, got bored, and quit. I just find the prospect of "applying" to a guild to be stupid. Why don't you apply to a job instead?
Well, it's unfortunate, and you probably won't accept this, but there's certain quality to raiding with a group of competent people that you like that I just can't explain to you if you never really did it yourself. The raids are too difficult to let just anybody in.... and to make them easy enough so that you COULD let just anybody in.... would ruin a lot of the fun. And has in the past.
I like how you imply that nobody that would apply to a guild has a real job >_>
Funny thing is, I actually spent the last two weeks applying to professional accounting firms <_<

You can defend it all you want, but I feel like doing hardcore rating is the equivalent to working a full time job. I can't fathom anything being fun enough for me to actually want to do all the dailys and crap required to be competent at raiding.
