Except Sephiroth has to deal with Cloud/Sephiroth when it comes to nominations, so only one Sephiroth rivalry will be accepted. Which will be the one with the most nominations.

Since I watched a YouTube LP of FFVII back in early 2009, I remember that Aeris is introduced later and that Tifa is Cloud's childhood friend. Makes sense enough that Tifa would be the "protagonist".
