Gotta love being put to sleep and instant killed when you are one step away from the exit after spending at least an hour in the amala labyrinth, augh.

also that other topic purged or something. Going for the true demon ending now. I beat the 4 remaining fiends (who were all pushovers by now) and I also beat Beelzebub (who took ages to beat, but I didn't really feel like I was in danger of losing the fight at any point).

Reminds me of my best Persona 3 memories.

Having the protagonist getting staggered and pounded on by all four enemies.

yeah this happened to me occasionally in persona 3 as well, which would really piss me off. In nocturne however it happens so damn often that I've pretty much just started to accept it whenever it happens.

Nocturne follows a pattern of grief:

Step 1: Rage
Step 2: Acceptance
Step 3: Negotiation (of game mechanics)
Step 4: Euphoria (after you finally beat the whole goddamn game, down to the bonus boss)
Step 5: Mad skills (your reward for going through with so much torture)

The best part of Nocturne is when you miss with an attack, lose the rest of your turn, and get killed by the enemies.

totally not going to negotiate with these game mechanics until they stop doing things like this! this is still a full blown war as far as I'm concerned

also I got pixie back in the fifth kalpa, but I'm kind of disappointed, no buff or debuff moves and it seems like she's a real MP waster, geez.

and metatron down. I don't even know if this happens a lot but every single demon in my party voids expel attacks, so beelzebub was a lot tougher than him.

and I guess I'm done with the labyrinth now, whoo.

I plan on trying to somewhat complete this game. I was going for just a full compendium (I assume this is possible in one playthrough), I guess I might as well get every magatama as well.

speaking of annoying. I realized this place also has that enemy that does the put to sleep/instant kill combo so I switched to the magatama that protects me from sleep. The first fight I get in, I immediately get killed off by a guy using hell gaze from which my previous equipped magatama would have protected me.

I didn't even know they still did those contests! but I guess it counts, geez.

And Baal went down without even summoning her allies. And I think I'm going to skip on finishing the compendium because I'm pretty sure this will take forever. I'll still get the Masakados though, I mean I have all the other magatamas so why not.

Ok well... Got the Masakados, Bishamon was a jerk which made me feel not that confident about the final final boss.

But for some reason I felt like I was totally overprepared during the actual fight. Debilitate really ruins Lucifer since he didn't use Dekunda a single time. so after getting his stats down I just had 1 demon cast tarukaja, another rakukaja and the last one healing while my hero was using focus and freikugel. I don't even think I was that overleveled or anything I mean I was level 81 and apparently there are demons that require you to be level 95. I guess knowing about Pierce and the Masakados really helped here, but I kind of feel like a cheater with them now since I didn't even have a little bit of trouble with him. Playing on normal probably helped too.

Ending was pretty cool though, although I prefer the kingdom of the free or whatever one since I'm a sucker for good endings. gotta love the scene of the demi-fiend walking forward with red glowing eyes being followed by all those demons.

So all in all this was a pretty great game. The entire atmosphere this game had was really well done, the entire game had this feel of solitude to me which made it pretty unique for a JRPG. It also might be the hardest JRPG I played, I'll never forget about Matador at least! I never really was sure about the SMT series, I loved P3 and 4 but when I tried the P2 fantranslation it seemed really boring to me. But with Nocturne being so good I plan on at least trying to find the DDS games and Strange Journey, although I do have Devil Survivor though so I guess I can play that first.

Yeah I lucked out on Lucifer too. He only cast Dekaja/Dekunda once each for me.

Also, play Devil Survivor next! It's like SMT main series + Persona + SRPG. Great stuff.

Oh right, Devil Summoner too. Geez so many PS2 games, how come there isn't a single one on the PS3 yet.

And I have a feeling the SRPG thing is going to do me in, the only SRPG I ever beat is Disgaea and I probably only beat that because I was totally grinding levels in it!

to be honest I was hoping lucifer would use his normal attack more often because demi-fiend was doing pretty good damage with retaliate!

and I got Devil Survivor from a local store that usually has a few import copies of games that never make it to europe.
