Was there ever a reverse of that, where people think they're just sufficiently advanced technological aliens when they were, in fact, divine?

CS Lewis's space trilogy had some elements of that, but I can't say it's exactly what you're describing.

Season 6, early on in the season.

Forget the exact episode but you should be able to find an episode list and find it pretty easily.

arthur c clarke's rama series of books kinda fits this. but really, the final book that explains it "rama revealed" sucks balls.

The Supernatural episode was "Clap Your Hands If you Believe"

It also sorta had "Mystery Spot"

you heard correct. it just goes downhill and is a shadow of what made the first one great. it isn't all too bad if you don't mind one dimensional characters and contrived plot, but still...not the best series of books barring the first.
