Just today, I applied for an internship at SmartBear, which is a company that produces software for software developers. I got an email asking to schedule a phone interview 5 hours after they received my resume. Phone interviews are also called "phone screens" because they're looking to weed out the horribly unqualified candidates who can't even construct the simplest of programs (things like "print all the numbers from 1 to 10"), so getting to this point means that I'm almost guaranteed an actual in-person interview, where they'll get to discriminate against me for all sorts of things like race and height and weight and whatnot.
Also I'm applying for an internship at ARM as we speak. I'm writing my cover letter. It's hard :/
omg I think Intel is considering me; they just asked a bunch of softball questions over email. The only concern is that my GPA is not super-duper. But that might also have been a form letter since I applied through an external service rather than the Intel website. Frown town. *le nervous*
omg went to an info session today, got there 20 minutes late
was the first one up to talk to the guy in Q&A and introduced myself by name
interrupted him between sentences to apologize for having to leave (I didn't actually have to leave) and said "nice meeting you... Rob?" and I said I'd send him my resume and said "I'm [name]"
whee hopefully I'll stand out because I'm the only one whose name he knows and I sort of solidified myself as "not like the others" because seriously who does any of that stuff, yay for strategic impropriety :D
the guy interviewing me thought it went really well and is prolly gonna take me in for a face to face interview, which is good because I thought I kinda bombed it but WHO CARES probable job :D

And ^5 on the hating phone interviews. It's so hard when you can't display the proper facial expressions and you can't read their facial expressions. And this is kind of specific to programming interviews, but I was sitting down at a laptop and typing for the coding exercise, but I do my best thinking on my feet. It helps to walk around and talk through a problem and that's really hard to do when you're speaking over the phone.
