I'd recommend looking at a guide for what classes you need to learn to unlock the advanced classes. It can take a lot of time to level them up, so there's no reason to go in blind and level up classes that aren't going to get you anywhere.

Also, you can learn combination skills by leveling up two different classes. I wouldn't go out of the way to learn them, but it probably couldn't hurt to keep them in mind. A lot of people will say you'll want to learn Sword Dance (Warrior + Dancer) because it's powerful, but I don't think it's necessary.

Also, it really bugged me how no main class in the game learns Increase. You can only get it from some of the Monster classes, and I think it's a combination skill. It would have definitely made some parts of the game easier, so you might want to try and learn it if you can.

And finally, this is a spoiler, but it might save you some sanity...

a pre-emptive word about classes: Say you switch from one class to another before mastering the first. If you want to go back and continue advancing in the first class, you'll need to fight 30 battles in it. You also need to do this to learn hybrid skills if you fit a third class in-between the two you learn the skill from.

If you can suffer through the crappy jobs to make someone a teenidol (bard+dancer+jester), I'd do so. Hustle (heals ~70 to all FOR 0 MP) is ridiculously useful.

Sword dance is also definitely good.

Hint: Gabo and the hero are the only ones you should have long term plans for.

Also the class system wont overcome the huge leads certain characters have in certain stats, so Maribel should be an offensive mage, either the Hero or Gabo should pick up heals.The rest just have fun with.

The hero needs to master two advanced classes to pick up the God-tier hero class. So do that ASAP.

Also the monster classes are sometimes a good idea, and Gabo is a great repository for those.

Oh also warning if you're past some threshold level for each given area you can't work towards mastering jobs there (there are places very late in the game with level 99 caps though).

The level limits for DQ7 are actually a lot more generous than DQ6, anyway. To the point where you can generally travel 3 islands back and still be ok(in fact that's optimal since the fights will be easier that way)

I never ran into a situation in DQ6 where I hit the level limit, but I recall not being able to get credit on enemies as weak as you could in 7.

it was a big problem for me in DQ6 actually! I had Hassan stuck on a class for like half the game because he was too high level XD

Well if you went through DQ6 without any grinding like normal, it's not really an issue.

But for people that like to grind, yeah, I can easily see them hitting the cap. I remember being at a point where one of my characters(think it was either Hassan or the Hero) actually reached the level limit, but it was at the end of that area before I was about to move on so it didn't really matter
