Nocturne. Then your DDS1 bonus boss will be that much more painful, you see?

Well, Nocturne and DDS1 and 2 combined are roughly the same length (in the 60-70 hour range).

It mostly depends on what you're looking for.

DDS is more story/cutscene/character oriented. Nocturne has more of a minimalistic approach.

Nocturne's a bit more open in terms of gameplay, though neither have towns in the traditional sense (Nocturne probably is a bit closer despite not being "safe" zones, in DDS you basically just have some safe rooms at the start of dungeons where you can talk to the other characters)

Nocturne has more sidequests and optional content

Nocturne's party is made up out of generic demons that you fuse, DDS you have a party of fixed characters you can pick from and buy upgrades for.

Nocturne requires a bit more thinking ahead and planning out skill sets, between the fusion system and that the main character has only one chance to learn each skill and it's lost forever if you discard it. DDS lets you equip any skills a character has learned at any time (although skills are enormously expensive and have to be purchased for each character separately so you still have to plan out what builds you want)

Both use the press turn system, though you have fewer turns in DDS because you have fewer characters in battle and turn order is fixed based on position instead of having being based on agility.
