Imagine we reach the point where we can use virtual reality to perfectly simulate the real world. Let's say it could be set up in a way that the user completely forgets they're in a simulation, and the way time is perceived in the virtual world allows the user to spend something like an entire virtual year in a single real world minute, or whatever. So a person could live an entire virtual life, one indistinguishable from a real life, and wake up in the real world after their "death". Then they could repeat the process. Eventually living thousands of different virtual lives, for as long as they can.

Of course, some people might say they would be a hollow lives, and wouldn't compare to living in the real world. But seeing how so many people already obsess over virtual worlds in MMOs and such, it's not hard to predict that there would still be tons of people who would live this way. And to be honest, it does sound appealing if you think about all the different lives you could have. Since it's a virtual world, there could be no limits to whatever fantasies or scenarios you could live out.

Time compression does not work that way, so no. It might be possible to create mind-machine interfaces where we recreate ourselves as AIs, the AIs live out whole lives, and we can selectively experience what they did, like a monstrously big version of multitasking, though.

Stop playing FFVIII. "Time compression" is not a real concept
