Now now, Tom. The Hobbit IS great. But Tolkien definitely didn't take as much care with it as he did with LotR and Sil. That is why time goes slowly in some parts (two months from the SHire to Rivendell WHILE mounted?) but then really fast later one (One minute its newly summer, the next its winter. Yet only a few weeks have passed.)

I disagree. The Silmarillion is great for fans who can't get enough of the LotR world, but it was much dryer than LotR or The Hobbit. I actually took notes while I was reading it.

If J.R.R. Tolkein had lived long enough to finish the Silmarillion properly, it could have rivaled LotR imo.

There are times when it is dry for sure, such as describing the kingdoms of the Noldorin exiles and what not. But when it comes time for action or description of battles, that is when Tolkien's work shines.

i loved the hobbit when i first read it, which was when i was like 10. still do

as for LotR, i couldn't even get through the two towers

haven't even attempted the silmarillion
