I mean it just feels so much like the writers don't care anymore. It's all so awkward and doesn't flow at all.

It's not the worst or anything like that, but I feel you could put pretty much any episode of the newer seasons against any of the older episodes and the older stuff will win every time, with rare exception.

It's been a long time, and all things considered, the show is doing alright. It's not going to strike gold consistently (and even if it did, you'd still insist it used to be better) but it's been improving bit by bit. Even episodes that I felt were weak later in the season felt more organic than some of the episodes that kicked it off.

Though I'll admit that this episode's subplot was half-assed to an insulting degree.

There's a hit here and there. The first two movies, The Prisoner of Benda, Lethal Inspection, and The Late Phillip J. Fry were all pretty good, but it's gotten away from the 19/20 episodes are gold quality of the original run.

I enjoyed the movies but the newer episodes have definitely been meh. Am I the only one annoyed by the inconsistency of Fry and Leela's relationship? Sometimes it seems like they are together but other times Leela goes back to acting like she doesn't even like him?

No that bugs me too. The first movie was basically all about how much Fry was in love with Leela and then the next movie was just "oh hey guys, imma move in with this polygamy chick now." I think part of the problem is that Matt Greoning pridedshimself on the whole "at the end of an episode things go back to the way they were" idea. Even though stuff in The Simpsons like Barney becoming a recovering alcoholic and Milhouse's parents divorcing were permanent.

Aside from the fact that it's all a matter of taste, for all you know season 7 will knock every episode out of the park. If it's not equal, it's a bad comparison.

I personally believe that the only bad episodes of Futurama's original run were A Leela of her Own and The Route of All Evil, neither of which were in the first 26 episodes. In the newest season, which has 26 episodes, there are several bad episodes.

If season 7 was perfect, and you asked "how do the newer seasons altogether compare to the original seasons?", then the clear winner would be the original seasons.
