looking at a few "iconic" Video game characters it does feel like they have suitable names that reflect the character pretty well.

But yeah to you, is it fairly important for a character's name to "fit" or you just don't care what they're called and wouldn't mind Link being called Troy Daniels and Mario running along with the name Pedro Rooney.

I never rename characters in video games because it bothers me, for some reason.

So I guess I would agree.

No but really, the given names are pretty important and I agree that many of the most popular characters have fitting names. There's obvious bias after the fact from already being accustomed to the names, but aesthetics are always an important consideration in creative works.
