But make this topic on Sept 4 and it gets interesting.

Then we would just call it Tomorrow.

Sept 5.

But make this topic on Sept 4 and it gets interesting.

[Edit: or even on Sept 3]

I know people who would say "Sept. 5 is this Monday, Sept. 12 is next Monday"

I think It's acceptable to say, on Sunday Sept 4, "We're going to do _____ on Monday" - having the same meaning as "tomorrow"

At the point of Sept 4, I'd say "Monday" = "this Monday" = "tomorrow, Sept 5"...... whereas "next Monday" is more ambiguous but could be assumed to mean Sept 12.

If we're discussing dates on Sept 3, on the other hand..... if someone says "next Monday" I find that almost completely ambiguous

It's Tuesday, August 30th. If someone tells me "this Monday" I assume they'd mean "yesterday, Monday August 29" - if they're using "this Monday" to mean "6 days from now", that's craziness IMO

'This Monday' refers to the current week. If someone said 'this Monday' they'd mean yesterday.

Even the whole "this" notation gets ambiguous over the weekend though.

i.e.,
- It's Friday and you're talking about "this Sunday"
- It's Sunday and you're talking about "this Friday"
- It's Monday and you're talking about "this Saturday"

Of course, all that ambiguity usually goes away because you're probably saying either "is", "was", or "will be" at some point
