Doubt they've learned anything. The industry is more dominated by third parties now than ever before, and Nintendo needs to court them better than Microsoft and Sony, not just as well. I'm sure all third parties have apprehensions about competing with Mario and Pokemon; Nintendo needs to make the Wii U extremely appealing and easy to develop for. Otherwise, it'll be just the same old same old.

They'll probably get a year headstart on the competition. What an amazing headstart it would be if they could get ports of all the big third party 360/PS3 releases and claim "hey, we have this game too, and on the MOST POWERFUL system!" Now what are the chances that'll actually happen?

He still doesn't get it.

It's about the type of games on the Wii, plus the controls aren't precise at all and thus I can never take a Wii game seriously. HD graphics are desired among casual AND core bases, dunno why he thinks that's the difference.

It's not just competition with Mario, it's that you essentially compete with what's left after Mario.

Nintendo's release next year is in an odd spot, with so many big current gen releases in the next 6 months, Wii U can really only hope for sloppy seconds. They need a big splash, something akin to a timed GTA5 exclusive and a Pokemon Wii U game out for the next holiday season, imo. And I'm not sure they're willing to throw money at someone to really establish that foothold, and the article suggests that they don't realize that's where they are.

I'm sure just Pokemon Stadium 3 would make alot of people cream their pants.

And no, Battle Revolution isn't Pokemon Stadium 3, it lacks the minigaems.

I don't know much about Pokemon console games. I agree that there's little chance that they'd forsake the 3DS for the Wii U. I'm not sure what else they can release that would legitimately have the kind of pull that Pokemon has.

What about something like a Wii U remake of RBY? does that put butts in seats?

Wii U will need a killer Nintendo app at launch, and also another huge third party launch title, exclusive or not.

Hey all this is Bartz btw.

I don't think they even need to care about fighting for exclusives from third parties - just gotta move in a better direction with some of their own stuff. SMG 1 and 2 were great and everyone liked them, NSMBWii and DKCR were good also. But Zelda, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Metroid, F-Zero, Star Fox - all of them had worse games this gen or nothing at all.

I personally would love a sequel to Pokemon XD, seriously my favorite Pokemon game.
In any case I don't really think we know enough about the Wii U to make predictions about how well it's going to do yet.

Pokemon XD would've been awesome if there wasn't that damn Shadow Pokemon thing that limits what you can catch.
