I wouldn't call the artists/bands obscure, but some of the song choices are definitely obscure tracks, which is obviously the intent. Take Nirvana, you could pick popular singles, but picking lesser known songs is part of the challenge.

Disappointed that I missed REM. I saw Begin the Begin and said to myself "I absolutely know this band, why can't I remember?" Still tired, even this late in the day.

Anyway, since none of these bands are obscure according to a number of you, who the hell is/are Arctic Monkeys? What I get is "an English indie band." Sound pretty obscure to me.

If you call a band that has millions of fans around the world and headlines festivals around the globe obscure, then yes, they are obscure. Just because you haven't heard about them doesn't mean they are unknown. All of these bands have a fanbase that's over millions of people.
