Agree. My Luigi hate aside, you almost never see Yoshi without Mario, save for maybe 1-2 times. Luigi can do his own thing without Mario quite a bit

Disagree. You seem to be mistaking "sidekick" for "mount."

Yoshi is Silver to Mario's Lone Ranger, while Luigi is Tonto. Yoshi is the Batmobile to Mario's Batman, while Luigi is Robin. Tonto and Robin can go off and do things on their own, but they're overshadowed by the main hero's skills. Would you say Tails isn't Sonic's sidekick, even though he basically IS Luigi, except slightly more helpful?
