Doing some renovations, and part of it was replacing the back deck because it was partly rotting and generally not good. During the deconstruction I noticed a few things. First of all, the stairs were attached to the deck by two nails to a single piece of wood. Second, most of the key supports were rotten mostly through. And third... The deck wasn't actually attached to the wall. I literally pulled the deck off after we cleared out two of the sides. No nails or anything. I'm no carpenter, but that just doesn't seem right. Deck is surprisingly hard to take apart though for whatever reason.

Come to think of it, my house is plagued by poor design choices. Stove vents up into the attic, plumbing not done right at all, random bit of wall sticking out in my room that serves no purpose (and is empty inside), insulation being totaly lacking in certain areas... It's a nice house and all, but I have no idea what the guys who built it were thinking.
