Board 8 > Are Geomancers supposed to be broken? *FFV discussion topic*

Playing through the game again for the first time in a long time. Decided to make a couple of my units into Geomancers because of the awesome hats, but damn, are they supposed to be this good? They're good in forests, great on fairland, amazing in desert, and absurdly broken in swamp. Just reached the Big Bridge, and my current team looks like this:

Luke -> Ninja (Terrain)
Lenna -> Red Mage (Terrain)
Galuf -> Red Mage (Terrain)
Faris -> Berserker (lol)

A lot of classes in Final Fantasy V are broken.

The gulf between -ara and -aga spells made so many classes do decent damage. Then black magic returned to top tier shortly after.

And hey, free spells that hit hard is always good! Until you get the really big spells, that is.

Yeah, my hunch is that Geomancers are a class dominant in the middle-game, but get outclassed later on. It's just surprising that the "Terrain" ability is learned at Level 1 of the Geomancer class, when most of the time, the really good stuff is dished out only with massive AP accumulation.

There never was a post. Swamp gas from a weather balloon was trapped in a thermal pocket and refracted the light from Venus.

Quick question: is it worth getting the 400 AP for the Berserker's Lv.1 ability? I'm already 140 points in, and I'm hoping it's "Equip Axes"... but I'm not sure.

Level 1 is Berserk. Level 2 is Equip Axes. So yeah, and those 2 are the only abilities you can learn as a Berserker.

I only recall one good Axe though, and that was back in World 1.

They're really good when you first get them, but they lose their usefulness with time. The amount of damage they do doesn't seem to increase that much, so they're not as useful when fighting enemies later in the game.

Well, I know that axes ignore 75% of enemy defense, so the idea was to have Faris with a Ninja / Equip Axes set-up. And it looks like that'll be a possibility pretty soon!

Yeah I ran Galuf as a Geomancer for World 1 and most of World 2. They get outclassed soon after that, though.

Kind of tempted to start a run using only one of the bonus jobs in FFV Advance (unlocked early of course). Although Gladiator seems kinda easy, and I'm not sure what will happen if I gave Galuf the jobs.
