So a friend of mine and myself have been arguing for a while about the merits between Fire Emblem 6 and 7; he prefers the former, I prefer the latter. You know the mechanics of both games better than I do- and frankly, you've got great opinions on sRPGs in general- so I was hoping to get your perspective on this. Can't hurt to get more ammunition, right?

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd go over and analyze whatever FE data they have for you.
But I am lazy, so all I can tell you is that, iirc, weapon balance is god damn terrible in FE6. Like... swords are stupid good and axes are kind of garbage or something. But I don't know how much better it is in FE7, so... *shrug*

I actually haven't played FE6. The mechanics are basically identical, though.
The big thing FE7 does to make it stand out from pretty much the entire series is that it has character balance. There are a ton of viable characters with strengths and weaknesses, reasons to use them some playthroughs, and not to use them others.
Past that, I can only really go on stuff I've heard about FE6 (like, apparently axes and axe users are terrible).

This is definitely true. You know how good anima magic is compared to light/dark magic in FE7? It's about ten times worse in 6.
And I didn't realize you hadn't played the game, metroid; you really should! It's still excellent, if arguably inferior, and FE6HM is a unique experience.
