Isn't that uh... the point of having advisors? They all have opinions, you listen to them and work out the best solution. You want to get someone fired because you disapprove of his suggestion.
There's a difference between "I don't agree with your suggestion" and "your suggestion indicates that you have absolutely zero respect for individual rights and freedom"

If you live in London, does it not disturb you AT ALL that the mayor has an advisor who advocates such policies? Is that the type of person you want your mayor getting advice from? At what point do you fire advisors who say things like that?
Not really. He's not Boris Johnson's only adviser. I doubt "The adviser of technology" holds a lot of influence to be honest. BJ will probably have between 10-20 other advisers on hand as well. Along with Ministers, MP's of London and presumably civil servants (I'm not sure of the civil service/Mayor of London relationship). On top of that, I doubt the Mayor of London is going to appoint advisers who all think the same way when he is the mayor of such an ideologically diverse city. It's one guy telling Twitter what he thinks should happen with what sounds like very little support coming from the public or anywhere else in Parliament.

if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it do the other trees laugh?
Also, keep in mind the tone in which he said it. He didn't just say, "Hey guys, has anyone considered how shutting down IM might improve safety on the ground" He said "I can't BELIEVE we haven't taken draconian measures to disrupt private communications! WTF!"

He does indeed have every right to free speech. And his employer has every right to fire him for expressing views that are offensive and reflect badly on the employer.

Because it's bs. It's the daily mail, they probably saw him talking to Boris one day and decided that he is the technology adviser or something. He is worthless, his tweets are worthless, he has practically zero political sway.
Hello rioters. Look at your friends, now back to me, now at your friend, now back to me. Sadly, they arent me, but if they stopped setting fires, and started using the Job Centre they could have money like me. Look down, back up. Where are we? You're at an interview with the man your friends could work for. Whats in your hand? Back to me. I have it. Its an application form to that job you need. Look again. The form is now money. Anything is possible when you get a job and stop looting. I'm on a horse.
Without commenting on the whole adviser thing, I'll say I'm deadly tired of Republicans making vague statements about having no respect for "freedom" and that limiting "freedom" is disturbing. Freedom isn't some godly thing that should never be limited. I should not have the freedom to go out on the street and start randomly shooting people.

You should be glad that you have the freedom to be dumb

You're trying really hard to keep that "Muffin 2.0" thing going, don't you? At least Muffin usually attempts to come up with a counterargument instead of throwing out an insult.

So, is someone actually going to respond to my point? Or would the people who disagree with me prefer to share such insightful comments as "you're dumb" and "lmbo"?

What civilians have the freedom to run around shooting people?
When did I say any civilians have that freedom? My point was that freedom shouldn't be limitless, and that limiting freedom is, at times, a good thing. This in response to Republicans going "PEOPLE'S FREEDOM GETS LIMITED" as if that is a terrible thing by default.
