Well based on the comics it's definitely doable!

More space less Earth is also a good policy to take.

Better yet, just don't do Green Lantern 2. Save your money for the good movies.

Darker and edgier is not really what that movie series needs

If you throw in Red Lanterns it will by default be darker and edgier so here's hoping

What they really need to do is replace Hal Jordan with a half-black/half-Hispanic teenager.

I'm still in disbelief that they're making a Green Lantern sequel. Not because I hated the film or anything - I thought it was perfectly average - but because it bombed really hard, and the sequel is almost guaranteed to do even worse. Most people HATED this movie - from a business standpoint, it would have been smarter to wait a while, and then just reboot it.

What I find weirder is that they're focusing so much money on Green Lantern of everything. Batman already has a series, sure, and maybe they want to let Superman cool off after Returns, but what about Wonder Woman? She's still better known than Green Lantern.

movie studios are not so keen to invest $100 million+ in an action movie with a female lead.

And the studios agree with you obviously. I mean, if they can't trust Joss Whedon then who can they trust?

Obviously, anyone with half a brain would trust Whedon.

......A reboot would be far worse. I don't see why that'd be "smarter."

I'm pretty sure WB wasn't expecting to make a gain on the $300 MILLION they invested for some crazy reason. What they did do was get the character out there and into public knowledge. And now they can license toys, games, the animated series, and they already have the premise and characters set up from the first film so they can just take the loss and move on with a sequel. You can tell in the movie that they were writing for a sequel from the start, too.

Why would a sequel do worse? I've really only seen critics and analysts complain about the movie.

To be fair, I think Green Lantern is more well-known than a lot of people think. My generation loves the guy, thanks to the Justice League series that aired on Cartoon Network way back when. Wonder Woman is more well-known for sure, don't get me wrong - but a lot of people seem to think GL is a C-list superhero, and that's flat-out not true.

Personally, though, I don't think WB was investing in Green Lantern himself, so to speak; more than anything, I think they just thought a superhero flick with Ryan Reynolds was a surefire success. And hey, maybe that would have been the case last year - but 2011 has had a ton of superhero movies, so GL had to deal with both awful reviews and superhero fatigue. The writing was on the wall for it once X-Men: First Class fell short of expectations; if a really well-liked superhero movie couldn't make a dent, there was no way a poorly-reviewed one would.

Why do you think that? The 2008 Hulk made a mint at the box office, and vastly outperformed the hated original.

Jolie had minor success with the Lara Croft movies as well, but a couple movies over the course of a decade aren't indicative of a trend towards female action heroes.

Angelina Jolie. 'nuff said.

I don't know about you but I'm having a hard time coming up with an actress who has enough pull at the box office as Angie and could carry a (fairly hokey, conceptually at least) film like Wonder Woman.

It's the common sense "Fool me once, shame on you..." thing.

They somehow convinced Harrison Ford to star in Cowboys and Aliens. Anything's possible. :P

I'm not saying they couldn't get a big name actress to do the part, actually, it'd be quite the opposite with Wonder Woman, but asking who'd you think would be good enough for the part.
