Board 8 > Final Fantasy X went from being a pariah in 08 to one of the board faves now?

I always thought it was a good game but not better than VII, VIII, VI, V or Tactics. Wonder what changed the sentiment of the board so much?

Tactics is still better. Doesn't stop it from being an amazing game.

I never understood the hate some people had for X, and I still dont understand the hate for VIII....just unusual to see it go from being almost hated to being (possibly) the boards favorite final fantasy game.

10 has always been great and Tidus is an awesome character. I think a lot of the hate came from Tidus, which someone said was likely because he reminded people of themselves. I might agree with that.

Tidus is not an awesome character, except maybe by the end. He is the epitome of an average character up to that point, which I honestly believe is what they were going for. The bigger problem for most people is simply his voice.

As far as VIII goes, I still maintain that was the worst battle mechanics for any game that can be classified as the classic style JRPG. Story is more subjective, but for me it fell apart after Disc 1. And the orphanage twist is the second worst twist in all of gaming history.

in fairness, I would also be pretty angry if tidus reminded me of myself. not sure that directing it at the game is the right outlet for that anger, but I'd be angry

yuna's voice acting is worse than tidus' though, she's the female version of william shatner. star trek shatner, not boston legal shatner. denny crane is the man.

I'm not talking about the quality of the VA when I say people find Tidus' voice annoying.

or quit the game early. for years I actually hated FFX because I rented it once and the beginning left me with a bad impression. a few years ago I bought it used and started playing it again, it really does get much better by the end

I don't know what board you were on in '08 but FFX has always been pretty popular here.

his VA is frequently complained about though, and it could be a little better, but it's far from the worst in that game. and tidus is a spoiled star athlete, no one here should relate to him that much unless lebron james or randy moss are lurking the board. "people hate tidus because he reminds them of themselves" is a ridiculous argument.

Final Fantasy VII does pretty much everything better than FFX, the only strict disadvantage it has is that you have to use the D-pad for the entire game.

I never had a problem with the voice acting as I dont put too much emphasis on such things. the story and characters were solid and I enjoyed blitzball.

First attempt at voice acting in a mainline FF being subpar is a lot more forgiving than lego graphics for first time 3D modeling. Just saying.

Of course not, Activision is the scourge of gaming. That's just a terrible scene in an otherwise amazing game.

Is Nicole about to rape Uru? Uru's voice was terrible btw, as was what's-her-face's. Uru just sounded like some guy reading a cue card, but I think I've heard even worse than that.

FFX has always been liked around here, especially within the past few years. I don't think it's as enjoyable to play today as it was a while back. Not a bad game, but it's worse than the three PS1 FFs, and FFXII that came after it!

It might be worse though if I was surrounded by people who hated the game, but the only criticism was against the storyline.

And then I'd have to defend it and people would see me as the guy who likes FFX...augh.

Don't like the story and characters in X but I don't hate them either. They're just kind of mediocre. Great gameplay, though.

T > IX > V > VI > X

And after that is where things start getting into the "meh" territory where I can't distinguish very well what I think of them, except for XII being very clearly last.
