I just realized it after watching the latest episode. Now, don't get me wrong - I don't think the quality of the storytelling, cinematography, dialogue, or the show in general has degraded. I just hate the fact that there's not one single good character anymore. Whatever good was left in Walt seems to have slipped away, and Skyler is quickly joining him. Yes, the characters are complicated and intriguing, but I seriously can't root for any of them now (outside of maybe Hank). I burned through the first three seasons like a meth addict, and I gotta say that this latest ep. of season four is the first one I didn't really enjoy. I hope the next episode has a lot of Walter Jr. so I can at least feel good about one of these people. >_>

Walt is still trying to fight for his family, but you're right, his morals have taken a nose dive. It seems like now he just wants to take a machine gun to everyone who's his enemy. He has money now but doesn't want his family to die.

Jesse is only acting out because of the pain that killing another a man gave him...I think. I think he wants out but has no where to go and no one to turn to. He needs a friend. I'm guessin he goes off the deep end before this season is up.

Skylar and her sister has always sucked, whether they are good or bad. They do need to give Walt Jr. some lines or side story. It's hard to even cheer for Hank, who is a blatant butthole 24/7 to only his wife.

I don't think the story is getting any worse, but I do find I'm looking for something to be happy about.

The only thing I found really weird this episode is how quickly they got annoyed at the Car Wash guy and went YEAH WE HAVE TO HAVE YOUR CAR WASH NOTHING ELSE SUFFICES

otherwise I thought it was good. Definitely the worst episode of the season so far, but good nonetheless.

If you were put into the situations of these characters, and everything you did was on film, I am sure you would not like yourself either.

That said, I think Jesse is probably the one you can root for the most at this point. He's got issues, but he has a heart.

but I root for Saul.

Yeah, I'm not gonna criticize the show for being "emotionally/morally unrealistic" or anything, but it's still becoming less enjoyable. There's no one left to root for, although Saul is awesome like you said.

How can you not be rooting for Jesse? He's the purest character on the show outside of maybe Walter Jr. (who's very minor lately).

Jesse has been a self-entitled, selfish, arrogant douche for the entire show. He is filled with nearly as much unfulfilled "I deserve more than this" ambition as Walt, but Walt is a genius chemist repressed all his life, while Jesse is a high school dropout loser who's pissed away anything good that has happened or could have happened in his life (take a look at how great his parents were and tell me it's anyone else's fault that he ended up such a loser). He's been my least liked character from the start, and funnily enough, it took feeling bad about murdering someone to make people side with him. IMO, that's how difficult to like the cast is now. They are very hard to relate to.

Also, it really seems like you have an undeveloped sense of empathy. Do you not remember his family life? His girlfriends, both in S2 and 3? He's been a constantly generous, upbeat presence on the show since his introduction. Yes, he's flawed- like every other character on cable television- but he's always been immensely likable. Not trying to be rude, but if all you see in Jesse is a "dropout loser," then I feel there's something wrong with you as a person.

I can feel for him, but he's the cause of most of his own problems. What was wrong with his family life, exactly? We saw the way his parents raised and treated his younger brother. Unless they were completely different with Jesse, I assume they were good parents for their older child too, but he fell in with the wrong crowd, got involved with drugs, dropped out of school, and pissed on their support and forgiveness. They gave him second chance after second chance and he pissed them all away. And then he repaid them by screwing them out of their own house.

I can't remember if he outright encouraged Jane's drug habit, but he certainly didn't do enough to stop it (especially since knowing that she's been in rehab and that her father was doing everything in her power to keep her clean). He met his next girlfriend while trying to sell meth to people in rehab. Not even penniless idiots like Badger and the skinny guy (Skinny Pete, I think) were up for something that vile. He gets punched by Hank and is hellbent on ruining his life. He makes millions working for Gus with no risk and is upset that is isn't making more.

I do feel for him since he's had some terrible **** go down in his life, but he is a selfish, reprehensible human being. He feels bad about a child being murdered. He feels bad about murdering an innocent man when his hand is forced. I'm sorry, but these are pretty expected emotions. Feeling bad about these things doesn't make anyone "pure." >_>

his parents are awful, dunno how you can think otherwise. and the last chance he had was screwed over because he took the fall for his little brother, not his fault. and he didn't screw them out of their house, he took back the house that he felt should have been left to him anyway, because when his aunt had cancer he was the only one who cared for her and she wanted him to have it.

can't really defend him on anything else you said, but i think you were being too harsh on the above stuff.

I thought that was a different house. IIRC, the house he had at the beginning of the series was the one his aunt had left for him. He sold it because he was creeped out about living in a house where he and Walt liquidated two dudes. The house he bought from his parents really was his parents' house, and he strong-armed them into getting it for half price, using the meth lab - his own meth lab - as a bargaining chip.
