So yesterday, I got to use an early birthday present from my mom: Tickets to see Mastodon, Meat Puppets, Soundgarden, and Queens of the Stone Age at The Gorge Amphitheater, which is world famous for being one of the most gorgeous venues in the world. I was quite psyched - I had heard about it, but had not made the trek before.

Now the trek is a pretty mighty one - It's roughly four and a half hours of driving for me to get there, the last stretch of which is ripe with hills . Still, managed to make it on one tank, getting 270 miles in(and ending at just above 37 MPG O.o).

So after getting there and waiting in line for a bit, we finally get to go in, and the gouging begins! $4 for a bottle of water, $5.25 for a Coke(and not a big one either), $35 and up for shirts. I didn't even check how much food and drinks were >.>;

I wait around for awhile and check out the venue, and it's just stunning, thanks partly to the wonderful weather.

Finally, 6 comes around and the Meat Puppets start.

They were pretty good, though I didn't know them, or so I thought until they played this...

My mind was blown. I'd heard this years ago, but never knew the name or band, but just loved the song. Major win!

They only play a couple songs, then after a short break, out comes Mastodon!

They were awesome yet again. Not really my favorite band, but they put on a good show, and were fun to mosh to. Also saw one guy find some pot on the ground, roll it up, light up, and offer it to me. I passed >.>;

Mastodon passes, a short break and setup later, QotSA hits the stage!

Freaking amazing show they put on. I was blown away, and even started a mosh pit for Go With The Flow while attempting to move to the larger mosh pit! Singer was great too, and they played Make It Wit Chu, my favorite of theirs :3

CONTINUED!

Once again, a short break, and out comes Soundgarden. By this time, the pit(which is enclosed but surrounded by lots of of standing area) is filled to the brim, and the place is absolutely packed with people.

They played about everything you'd expect, along with a few newer songs, and put on an incredible show all around. At one point Cornell stopped after a song to pose for someone right in front of the stage taking pictures, then took the camera so he could film the entire crowd and their screams for her from the stage, and several times went down and met the people in front(I got a high five! :D), all the while people were moshing despite how full the venue was.

I don't typically care about concert photos but I will say you did a good job taking those pictures. More importantly, the images of the trip to the concert genuinely got me going a little. Beautiful locale!

Actually, that's not pictures of the trip; that's the view from the venue itself, I wish I had stopped more to take pictures of the trip.

Oh I forgot a crucial chapter!

The trip back was probably the stupidest thing I've ever done!

In short, I was massively tired and hadn't eaten since 10 in the morning, while having been moshing all day(no drinking or anything though), and decided to drive home.

A four and a half hour drive(though I managed to do it in almost 4 hours flat) with me risking nodding off and running into a wall or something, while still going 80 or 90 the whole way(speed limit varied between 55, 65, and 70).

Highlights:

Closing my eyes for a second, opening them, and seeing I'm going straight at a divider, only to swerve away just in time, and into the right lane even.

Deciding in my tired mind that since nobody was around, I'd be better off just getting home faster and hitting 90 for most of the last stretch >.>;

Slamming my brakes 3 times early on because my tired mind thought my GPS screen was a car in front of it I was about to hit.

Fun times. Massively stupid, but I lived so I laugh and know not to do it again >.>;
