What if you're one of the 30% of America without stable internet access? What if you live in Malaysia, The Philippines, or other parts of Asia? What if you live in a rural area and the only internet you have is dial-up? What id you're snowy and have satellite internet?

Spiral is going to crush through those guys while their character sits there idle before timing out.

Neon is correct. Fourty-fifty dollars gone in one fell swoop. Sucks for them.

Edit: Dealt with a lot of this bs in D2, got sick of it. I'd like to think I'm doing the game a service.

I can't believe people are still complaining about "always online." What is this, 2002?

it adds an extra layer of nothing before you can play the game, which usually takes longer. not everyone has a great internet connection. it's a nightmare for long term game preservation - 10 years down the road when the servers the game used to talk to go offline, you are stuck with hoping they patch out security that should've never been there in the first place.

oh and of course, it doesn't work at all. there's already effective ways of keeping pirates from playing games online which are less absurd. if you're trying to stop anyone else, you're barking up the wrong tree. they can just download the cracked version that doesn't have those limitations.

another one of those "no benefit for anyone and a negative for paying customers" things.

and a negative for paying customers

It's not a negative for ME.

I don't know who these people are that don't have reliable Internet, yet DO have PCs good enough to play new PC games.

I guess you don't know anyone who lives in Rural Areas where DSL isn't available. Where their only options are scam companies like HughesNet who have terrible restrictions on bandwidth, and their prices are still higher than DSL. But because DSL is not available in that area, their only other option is Dial-up.

When you move, sometimes it's not until you've finished moving that you find out you can't get high speed internet.

at best it is a minor inconvenience, or something you don't even notice. there is no upside though.

as far as internet vs PC, Alaska's a good place for that! our internet is usually reliable but not particularly fast. so logging into starcraft II adds about 10 seconds to my startup time each time through. kind of unpleasant.

Sure, but that's not what we're talking about. It's an issue for a large number of people, but you can't see why it's a big deal because it doesn't effect you?

Diablo 3 is going to be an online game you play with other people, with a strong economy of trading. It's not something to play single player to begin with and if that's what you are looking for then... Diablo isn't what you should be looking to play.

When you don't have internet do you sit there angry that you can't play a game of Team Fortress 2?

Stop with this God awful comparison already. Diablo is not TF2. It's not even close and it never was. Diablo and Diablo II both had very compelling single player. You are talking out of your ass.

Diablo 1 and 2 single player was the same as multiplayer.... except boring and often hacked. There's really no reason to keep it going.

How about a more similar game: Borderlands.

Nobody would play through Borderlands single player multiple times.... it's boring and pointless. Diablo and Borderlands are similar to MMO's in that they require quite a bit of grind, mostly for items. But what point is there in doing that if you have no access to anybody to trade with?

and yet would you really assume that blizzard would make a crappy single player for diablo today? i wouldn't. so the comparisons still don't work.

Uh, plenty of people do that. Just because you don't, doesn't mean other people don't. Yes, most people will find it more fun with other people, we get that. But usually something is better than nothing. I could stay at my aunts house an hour away and all she has available to her is some dial-up.
