I thought DQ4 was ok overall, but it didn't really leave me with any good/bad impressions. Never played DQ5, but considering it's usually always expensive or hard to find you might want to get it while it's cheap.

I heard about a Dragon Quest game where you play as a kid who grows up and gets a family and you get your children as party members which all sounded interesting. IS that a DQ game am I miss-remembering?

I've liked what I've played of DQIV so far.
If you want to look at some info about each, I'm doing a play through of IV and Pun is doing one of V. Just search Dragon Quest on the board to find both.
