I'd hardly say Sony and Microsoft have set a high standard for the past few years, if anything they've copied more of Nintendos ideas than vice versa. The main difference Sony/Microsoft has was creating a system that appealed to what 3rd parties wanted, Nintendo tried to do something different to stimulate developers to make something different.

To say the 3DS has failed is also way premature. I'd agree its not the direction I'd like Nintendo to go in but Microsoft and Sony have been doing stupid **** as well, so have most videogame developers (particularly the japanese ones) so its hard to let Nintendo shoulder too much of the blame.

I think probably the best way to get the message out to consumers that the 3DS is a new generation of handheld is to make sure to slap an "ONLY on 3DS" message onto any and all 3DS software advertisements.

I don't see how another crash would do any good for the industry. The only reason we have an industry to begin with is because the crash was a totally American phenomenon. Japan's game companies weren't even touched, and the only reason Nintendo showed up in America is because our gaming scene was dying and they saw the opportunity to grab us by the balls.

Who's going to bail us out if the west AND east come crashing down?

Unless you're trying to say you just want to see Nintendo crumble, which is something else entirely.
