You know, the price wasn't really the issue with the 3DS for me. It was lack of software. Even if they were selling it for $100 I wouldn't buy it unless it had a game I was more than slightly interested in.

Good to see that Nintendo is at least acknowledging a problem and taking responsibility for it.

Seriously.

Even the PS3 had a large period of no games.

Everyone's been whining about how much video game companies suck lately. Let's see the skeptics try to attack Nintendo now.

Same here. I was really excited and was actually planning on buying a 3DS when it was released but then I saw the game lineup (SSFIV was the only thing that interested me, and I already have that on the 360) I toned down my enthusiasm. And then I remembered that in a year a better, smaller, faster 3DS with more memory and five more cameras will come out in 24 new colors for half the price of the original, so I've decided to wait.

I have to give Nintendo and Iwata props though. How many major companies would admit they made a mistake, cut their higher up pays instead of the lower end workers, and attempt to fix the problem for their consumers?

Damn! The sheer amount of pessimism surrounding this system is INSANE. The sales aren't even that bad! >_>

I think this thing is gonna come roaring back this holiday season, what with the price cut, all the Mario titles, etc. I can't say I'm as optimistic about the Wii U, though. I'm not even expecting that thing to outsell the GameCube.

The price is the main problem. This is just the result of their heads being inflated because the DS dominated. I don't think the no games argument is particularly strong because not many consoles launch with great games. And the 3DS hasn't even been out for a year.

I think the price is fine. The only problem is that most of the good games aren't out yet. There will be lots of good games though.

I don't even see how the sales are "bad."

They wanted to sell 4 million. They sold 3.6 million. That's still a lot.

It's related to this last quarter (Apr-Jun), where the only shipped about 700k additional units from the last. By comparison, the PSP shipped about 1.8 million units. There was a sharp decline in demand, and there was also third-party / retail concern about how viable it would be heading into the holiday season. Their stock took such a hit because a) they're now going to be selling the system at a loss, which brings into question how long the entire 3DS business would become profitable and b) it's a drastic price cut no later than 6 months since launch, which Nintendo admits will hurt their reputation among consumers.

I was ready to purchase this for $250 when MML3 prototype or Layton v. Ace Attorney came out, whichever was first.

Wow! I’ve never seen such dedication. This how’s me how serious Nintendo is about gaming. You’ll never see Sony or Microsoft doing this.
